Generator size?

What size generator do I need to push a 15,000 and 13,500 air conditioner? Will 2 of the Honda 2200 paralleled together do it?

  • Check out the MicroAire Easy Start units that greatly reduce the surge loads when starting. Call their customer service people who are very knowledgeable and friendly. I have heard that a 15,000 and a 13,500 can run on a 30 Amp cicuit so maybe both could work off 2 2200 Hondas paired. One 2000 Honda runs my 15,000 OK

As long as you don't try to start both air/con simultaneously, paired 2000w units likely will do it but you are still pushing them really hard. I would want 5-6k watts of generator.

Add soft start to both, don't start at the same time and don't use the microwave without turning off one A/C unit.

Champion does make 3500W and 4000W (starting) inverter generators, 95 lbs and 82 lbs respectively. YouTube review of 4000W inverter generator.
  • I check to see what the temps are going to be.

    Temps in the 80's.

    2 Honda-2000's running 1 15,000btu keeps us comfortable.

Anything above that I loadup the "Little Creeker" .

    Honda 6500 Watt

Each unit is rated at 1600w continuous load and the air/con units are probably pulling around 1400w continuous. That leaves only 400w for everything else. I'm guessing if you run 2 air/con units, you likely will be running a few other items (TV, Fridge a few lights, etc...). Odds are the overload switch will pop regularly or you will be frustrated that you spent all this money on generators and you can't run anything else.

  • Not an expert (but play one on the keyboard---LOL), seriously tho, I think 2 -2000 units will only power ONE A/C.

I run one 13500 with my Honda eu 2000 watt. If I used the A/C a lot I would get a Honda 3000 watt.
  • No.

6000 watts. Start up surge is the issue, not running watts.
