- Y-GuyModeratorGet the numbers for the 2500 you are looking at, with those weight numbers we can give you better advice. Just because somebody is towing something with at 2500 doesn't mean its the ideal setup, many wish they had the 1-ton or 1-ton/dually.
- USMC2010ExplorerWhat motor would you be looking at with the 2500HD?
- lincsterExplorerGas motor because of payload and the looks of the DEF tank????
Wow, those are great things to base a decision on. - gattorgetterExplorerWell a 2500 D/A cc runs on average 2100-2250 payload, the 2500 6.0 runs on average 2500# and up. Due to the amount of off road (backwoods two track) I am fearfull the DEF tank could/would be ripped off
- lincsterExplorerThe 250lbs you might get in more payload, you will regret when towing between the gas and diesel motor.
I doubt the DEF tank hangs any lower than some other components under the truck. I would think the Engineers would have thought of this already. - FrankandbeansExplorer

Yes, I found this quite puzzling myself. - lightfootExplorer IIIcheck the towing guides that trailer life puts out and you will have a start on what the gross weight a specific truck can handle. if you don't like where the def tank is on the chevy, look at ford. theirs is next to the fuel tank and is filled from outside the truck, not under the hood. why stick with just gas? compare both and see which pulls what you are thinking about. If you limit your searching now, you will be sorry later. As a side note, I pulled my current TH with a 2500 gas and got 6mpg. Switched to a F250 Diesel and now get 12mg.
- 04LLYMAXExplorerI tow a 34 foot weekend warrior pull behind with my 04 duramax..I love this truck..tows nice..I have a lift on 37's..

It does, bout 3 inches below the frame. I work for GM, so with that said seems fitting to buy GM. - joebedfordNomad IIThe YEAR of your 2500 is very important to towing capability.
Diesel is better of course.
