good vs bad raptor?

coming from travel trailers. like the raptor 31 ds thtt.tired of loading the golfcart into the pickup. with that said, are all raptors problem prone ? read about some bad ones here. how about some that have not had trouble, or very little.thanx in advance.
  • We love our Raptor. We have a 2013 365lev. The only problem has been with the organization that sold us the unit. But the actual unit is fantastic. It fits our lifestyle and suits our needs perfectly.
  • Have you checked the Jayco toyhaulers? You already know how Jayco responds to issues (having owned both Jayco and Keystone, I would say neither is bad, but I love Jayco's online query service). Jayco just came out with the Sesmic for 2014...they look really nice, but may cost more than the Raptor (which we also drool over when we see one).

Of course, IMHO, NOTHING beats a Jayco Octane, but perhaps I'm biased...:-)
  • First time Raptor owner here and very happy. Our unit is a new to us 2005 3118. Only problem we have had was the water line for the tank flush rubbed on a sharp screw on the backside of the bathroom wall and put a hole in it.
I put a new set of rubber on it and a new battery when we took delivery and have had a trouble free summer.
  • Its pretty much a "coin toss" as far as RV's go. You either get a Monday, Friday or a 3 day weekend unit..They all have problems. Some more then others.

It seems that the assembly lines are full of people that dont care or the company dont care about a "extra" screw here and there that would make a sub standard unit above standard.

I have owned Alpenlites, Jaycos, Forest rivers and Thor Wanderers. The only unit that was nearly problem free was the Alpenlite. Out of business.
  • I've owned 2 Raptors. A 2006 3612 & currently a 09 380lev. Very few problems with my 2006 Raptor. Which prompted an upgrade to our 2009 Raptor. We have used our 2009 last summer & this summer. The biggest downside to each and pretty much any TH were the tires. We boondock in National Forests so some bumpy off roads etc. Both have held up rather well.

We only dealt with Keystone on the first Raptor for warranty issues. They were very helpful. Quick to respond to any issues and at no time was I ever frustrated. Probably because I didn't have a lot of warranty work, had good dealers & they had just started in the TH business. They've grown a lot & things could have changed. They did replace an awning after warranty for free. It wasn't secured properly and wind took it down. I thought that was very commendable of them.

I need to contact them because the decals are peeling on my 2009 Raptor & I've read where they will send the customer replacement decals at no charge but the customer is responsible for removal of the old ones & install of the new ones.

If I were buying again Raptor would be on my list but I wouldn't rule out other mfgs. Price would be my deciding factor.
  • Every RV can have issues, with the popularity of the Raptor you're naturally going to hear more about the issues with them. The troubling part of the stories I've read aren't so much the issues but how Keystone has treated customers. The flip side is we don't always know the full story. IMHO the biggest thing is finding a good, quality, dealer that will stand behind you if you have issues.
