gooseneck adapter
Has anyone used a gooseneck adapter on a 5er to have just a ball in the bed of the truck instead of the large hitch? We are considering trading the TT for a 5er but I hate to give up the bed space.

I don't want any rails at as they extend past the ball toward the front of the truck as this keeps me from placing my generator at the front of the truck. The idea of just using my B&W gooseneck and the Reese Goosebox frees up that space for me. If I had the 8' bed the rails might not be a problem but with the 6 3/4' bed it is.

Having the B&W turnover ball in my truck I could use the B&W Companion but it is so long that there is no room in front of it for my Yamaha 4500W generator. The goose box would allow me to store the genny against the front of the bed. Otherwise I have no place to carry it.
I have no problems with safety chains as all of my trailers (both bumper pull and gooseneck have them). It's just added security. Since I have a tailgate step getting into the bed of the truck is no problem either to hook it up.
All I need to know is which fifth wheel manufacturers use the Lippert frames that the Goose Box will work with.

I can pull my Reese 16k hitch out in less than 5 minutes anywhere I need to by myself and I am 68 years young. Rails have not been a problem for me reguardless of load, sand, gravel. plywood, whatever. I can even pull my cross bed tool box pretty easily if I have to for extra space.

I use a B&W turnover ball plus Companion Hitch. This provides the flexibility of using either a gooseneck or 5th wheel hitch. When the hitches are removed all that is left is a square hole in the bed of the truck.
The companion 5th wheel hitch works great and is easy to remove. It breaks down into two pieces, I can handle them but it would be better for two people or use a lift of some sort.

I forgot to mention the Goosebox doesn't require/have chains like my old adapter had, so that is one small convenience.
For all the "don't" advice, I wonder why many different makes are sold and I see other Fivers with adapters in almost every campground we stay in?
I'm sure adapters cause a lot less damage than tires (speaking from experience)!
