Grease The King Pin?

I went from pull right to B&W due to buying a long bed truck. I didn't want all the grease miss, and decided to try slip plate on pin and jaws of hitch. I had used it on the Pullright and it worked great there. After about 2 years the slip plate looks excellent. I just respray before I start pulling.

Lube plate plus wheel bearing grease on the pin and jaws. If it is metal to metal and moves, it should be lubed.

Lube plate so I don't have to grease the hitch plate or pin box plate

BUT.........

I do use a good grease on the hitch jaw and king pin cause they make metal to metal contact.

I use a dry graphite spray lube on hitch pivot points (handle/law actuator etc.) and a good grease on the hitch head 4 way pivot points.

Little grease on jaw/king pin every time I hitch up

Graphite spray 4 times a year

Grease 4 way pivots once a year after complete cleaning

fjrider X 2. Mine does not slide, use a small amount around front and sides of kingpin, but more on the back as that is where most of the work is done. Remember, too much will attract grit. Movement will transfer the grease to the jaws.

With an auto slide hitch the plate and head moves with the kingpin, so lubrication of the plate is not necessary and some teflon plates will raise the kingpin enough so that the hitch will bind (on an auto slider)- so no lube needed on the hitch plate and kingpin, but lube is needed on the sliding portion of the hitch, see the manufacturers recommendations.

On my slider I can see marks from hooking and unhooking and a bit of scratching from the little bit of movement - after 5,000 miles or so.

On my Reese manual-slider I used a teflon plate and judicious applications of a spray lube.

I have a lube plate installed. I noticed the rust on the back side of the king pin where the jaws contact has been worn off. The SuperGlide didn't do this.

It's not much wear but it got me thinking I may need to lube this metal to metal contact point with something. I'm still learning the details of using this different hitch. I'm guessing there is not a Teflon collar for this, similar to the lube plate.

I'll start with putting some wheel bearing grease on this point when I get her back home next week and monitor it from there.

I lube the king pin recessed area with thick grease where the hitch jaw goes around it and I do have a Pullrite Superglide hitch.

The jaw stays lubed as well and there is no wear on the pin where the jaw slides around it.

I use a lube plate. No mess and my first one lasted 6 yrs. The only maintenance on my Reese manual slider is some Teflon spray in and around the slide bar and lock mechanisms.

I use door latch grease on the surface of the jaws that contact the pin. My present trailer has over 125k miles and no wear issues.
I have used chassis grease on the pin but it sure was messy.

I use a lube plate and spray silicone on the pin at hookup. No issues in three years
