Sorry for another bs tire tread
Scary....The Maxxis I'd possibly think about BUT, in this group, you're getting what you pay for....not much....Most of the above, if not all, I wouldn't consider...try to find another "local big dealer"...don't sound like they are very "tire savy"....
Michelin RIBS aren't cheap,haven't priced them in a while....Bridgestone R250's cost less. - NC_HaulerExplorer

One problem you're likely to run into is that many tire shops simply won't put LTs on a trailer. Recent thread on here about a Big O shop not doing this.
Lyle
Most that have some credibility will put Michelin RIBS on a 5er as well as the Bridgestone R250s. - NC_HaulerExplorer

So I will start again. If you have 6k axles and 14K GVWR, then install Michelin XPS RIBs or Bridgestone Duravis R250s and you will not have to worry about tire problems for 6-8 years. Do it and don't look back!!!
Chris
AGREE!! I had a Coachmen Somerset with a GVW of 14,000# with 6,000# weight rated axles...Put Michelin XPS RIBS on the 5er and never an issue. The Duravis R50's cost less but "just as good as" the RIBS....
You really don't need to go G rated tires/rims unless you got the money to go that route...I personally would go with the RIBS or the Bridgestones.... - N6761UExploreredit
- N6761UExplorerFirestone TransForce HT's, have 12k on mine so far and are still looking great. Have them on a Big Country 2950 RK 10.25k empty weight. Have had up to 75 mph through MT and WY and track with no problems. Had them put on at a tire shop that deals with logging trucks and contractors, and they recommended them. Oh and the shop and been in business in NorCal since 1935.

Lyle - HvyhaulerExplorerCarpet Guy 2 ... I had the same problems with st tires as you and many others did, 8 to be exact.Luckily I caught mine before each blew ( about 100 miles apart )from 2008 - 2011 and didn't have any damage.
The 5ver now rides on Michelin XPS ribs LT235/85R/16 LRE Q speed rated up to 100 mph.No more bouncing or tracking problems. These are top quality tires as are the Bridgestone Duravis R250. Both tires give superior service and longevity. My XPS ribs are registerd with Michelin for warranty purposes if needed.
Pulling and camping is much more enjoyable now without wondering when the next tire is about to blow. Peace of mind ... Priceless !

Sorry for another bs tire tread - Bamaman11ExplorerI've got a new fifth wheel sitting at the dealer. I too read about Chinese tire horror stories day after day. Unfortunately, they also come on boat trailers, and my pontoon boat trailer also has "will pops."
My 16" Bridgestone R250's are on order from Costco for $195 each. That's substantially lower than any other prices I've found.
It's a shame American manufacturers cannot build a good RV/Marine trailer trailer tire for a fair price--and in sufficient quantities to service the entire trailer industry.
$800 is a small price to pay for a Bridgestone tire with such a great reputation. - handsome51ExplorerI have a 2006 carriage 5th wheel that I bought new. It weighs fully loaded for a trip at a little over 14,700lbs. Of that, 3100lbs and the some odd lbs is hitch weight. So I have 11,600lbs on the 5th wheel tires. The original chinese towmax tires lasted 7,000 miles. Since then I have been using Mich. XP RIbbs on the 5th wheel. Have not had any problem since I changed to the XP Ribbs. I replaced them every 5 years by the date that is stamped on the side of the tire. Buying tires every 5 years is a lot cheaper and less inconveient then having a blow out and repairing the 5th wheel as well as buying a tire.
