Had the RV Armor roof installed--Happy

Thought I'd let everyone know that I decided to put the RV Armor roof on my 13 year old Fifth Wheel. They are the people who come to you rather than you go to their facility. The RV Flex Armor probably is a better coating but the RV Armor (confusing names) seems more than adequate for 2500 dollars less and I didn't have to take my trailer anywhere. Both come with a full lifetime transferable warranty (good as long as the company lasts) so I felt fine about going the less expensive route. The installer was very conscientious and thorough. Very courteous as well. You never know who the tech will be but in my case they had a very good one. The whole job wound up taking three instead of two days because of some rain but seems very solid. No more small punctures covered by Eternabond or black streaks and no more calking the seams on the roof. They even seal the gutter system on the side of the roof. It cost me about $3900 for 35 linear feet of actual roof. My trailer is a 37 footer but just the rubber roof matters. I just got back from a 10000 miles journey and everything looks great. I really like how white it is. It will help in the Texas heat. Others may prefer the more expensive thicker coating but I at least wanted to say I'm thoroughly pleased with my RV Armor job.

    They give you a repair kit should you have a big branch drop on you or something. If I had to replace a skylight I could do it myself. They'd send the material. But they'll come do it for you as well. I don't know what the service call would be. I'm pretty confident that I'll never have to do anything due to faulty workmanship or materials and the stuff is actually more abrasion resistant than EPDM. A low hanging branch would have to be stout to do damage. But only an accident would require future repairs. I watched the entire process and that's my impression. I definitely feel it's superior to replacing the rubber roof. This stuff is much tougher and yet still has flexibility. I sound like an advertisement but really just wanted to share my impressions. I'm glad I did it.

    Absolutely it can be walked on. It's much more stout than the original rubber roof. You first would want to make sure all roof components are sound and in good condition because though they remain replaceable it would require resealing around whatever vent or skylight you replaced. They really put a lot of work into the seals around vents and skylights or anywhere else there is a penetration. It has much more polymer put on at all seams plus some kind of fiber mesh, perhaps fiber glass, that is embedded in the polymer. You have the choice of having them remove the ACs and replacing the AC seals or sealing up to the seals. I choose not to pull the ACs because both were new (less than a year old) and the roof under them is never exposed to sunlight. It's $150 dollars extra to remove the AC.

    I have read the articles etc in the past. But I have forgotten, what happens if you need to replace one of the flanged roof items such as a vent or skylight?

    I had the RV Flex Armor done to mine this past January. Either way you go is better than any rubber roof. Rubber Roof = Junk in my book. Mine started failing after 5 years in service.

    I sleep much better now.

    I paid five hundred up front. Nothing more until I approved the job. I think that's the way they operate with everyone. The warranty isn't as long as I own my trailer but is fully transferable. And it's a very nice looking substantial feeling roof.

But they treat the entire rubber with something that chemically stiffens the rubber. Then they do all sorts of work on every seam and penetration on the roof. They do this before they put the two coats of polymer on. If anything needs repair, they do that before anything else.     Nice. Wish they had been around when I did my roof on my old fiver.

    One question ... from their website, it appears that they don't always remove the old rubber roof. Is that really the case? This would be a concern to me - kinda like painting over wallpaper.
