Heartland Quality

While camping this past w/e, mother nature decided she wanted to shed some tears and offered some water from the skies. Curtailing from doing some things around the campground, we decided to head to nearby RV dealer to look at some RV's. Was a very good sized Heartland dealer and had many models on hand. Few caught our attention and like other mfrs, always talk up on how good their product is to others. That being said, how does the quality of Heartland stack up against FR, Keystone, Thor etc. Any difference in model lines? Lippert frames? They all seemed to be on the heavy side even dry and not a lot of cargo capacity as opposed to other brands w/ same max GVW.

As always, you input greatly and highly appreciated.

  • We had a 2015 Heartland Landmark and as you can see by my signature we no longer have it. The never ending major warranty issues are the reason we don't own it anymore.
  • Can't comment about the new ones, but we bought our model year 2011 Bighorn in 2010 and it has been error free since we purchased it. This is our fifth towable and one that we will keep due to its quality. At the time we purchased it, we were comparing it with a Montana. It had more features and a better floor plan so we went with the Bighorn.
  • I'm very satisfied with my Heartland Bighorn. I've only owned it for a year, just went off of warranty, ...have had some major issues, (slide), that was taken care and of course those minor annoyances, but on the whole a good quality rig.

  • Research owners forums for various brands. We did and went with a Heartland BigHorn.
  • I had a cyclone, no issues, then a big Horn Silverado. Had cracks form in skin on rear side of back opposing slide out openings just after warranty ran out. Not only would Heartland not step up and help but wouldn't even respond when I contacted them. Traded for a grand design.
  • Everything has a Lippert frame with very few exceptions. More weight means heavier materials more sturdy construction. Heartland makes too many similar models to try and sort out. Their customer service is good. Heartland like Keystone and others is owned by Thor but operates as a separate company. I had one but now have a Cedar Creek. Cedar Creek isn't flashy but uses good solid construction, few of the popular "do-dads" that are going to fall apart and to me represents an excellent value. Much easier to find a Cedar Creek dealer than a Heartland Big Horn dealer in my neck of the woods.
