Help from those with Super Glide using Slip Plate

Been working on way tubes to get off the old slip plate. I've noticed several pertty good scrapes that I can not sand out. They are peobably about 1.5 inches long, and can be felt when running my finger across it. Courses this is with most of the slip plate sanded off. Wiil this be a problem. I do know when I put it together I can make sure the scrapes are not carrying much of the load. Have you ever had to replace way tubes. My personal opinion is it won't hurt, but felt like I need to double check. I'm about ready to start applying slip plate. Thanks for any help.

  • If you have sanded the scrapes smooth I think you are fine even is not perfect.
I have a few ruts in mine without issue.
  • At one time they talked about a conversion kit to go to the newest unit. The last I heard they have backed off of that.I would love to convert. Little WD40 or any light oil would be so easy. Seems every year the parts just get heavier.
  • I just spray WD 40 on mine. Can't get much easier than that. Mine is the later model.
  • My Superglide 4100 uses Slip Plate (actually, I use another graphite paint called EZ-Slide).

I've thought about converting to the plastic wear plates, but even then don't you have to use a light oil application to the way tubes? To me, this is not much improvement over using the graphite paint.
  • You can turn the tubes 180* so the scratches aren't on top and you will be fine. You may also want to check with Superglide as the new ones have Teflon that they ride on, eliminating the need for grease or slip plate. You may be able to upgrade to the new system.
