Well, if you know what the pin weight is, you know how much weight is being put on your rear axle and tires...one takes care of the other. It's nice to know the numbers, but if all you're concerned about is RAWR and tire ratings, then all one does is weigh their truck with 5er hooked to it and compare the numbers. My tuck has a RAWR of 9750#,( actually 11,700# according to AAM), (already know the tires cover that easily), When I weighed the truck with 5er hooked up, rear axle had 7200# on it, so I was 2,550# under my RAWR..easily under my 4 tires ratings....
I do give a "patootie" about pin weight...I want to know ALL my weights to make sure I'm safe and not abusing my truck by digging so deep into the RAWR or tire ratings that I've compromised my safety systems when towing and to know I'm not prematurely wearing out my truck...just common sense to me....
I know a lot of people don't care about GVWR...I'm an idiot, I know if I'm under GVWR, which I am by well over 1200#, that I'm easily under my trucks RAWR...so not prematurely wearing out my trucks components and not pushing the limits of my truck to where it compromises my safety equipment...I tend to err to the side of safety ....
