Help needed for Snowbirding to Phoenix

Due to circumstances, my DW and I couldn't make preparation/reservations. Now we are planning to go, but of course "No Vacancy."
What we are doing:
We have 14 day resv. at Lost Dutchman S.P. in a non-elect.site. I check hourly for any cancellation so we can upgrade to elect., and I call Az. S.P. resv. #to check with their office twice a day.
I have requests at two commercial RV parks to be called if they any cancellations. Our dates are any time from mid-Jan. to mid-Feb.
Any info.,advice, contacts, etc. are appreciated.
  • Now that I am using a keyboard... here is the website for the Arizonian. It's a good place, and based on prior experiences, I think it will have an opening for you. You could do a lot worse, that's for sure.

There are lots and lots of commercial RV parks in Apache Junction and Mesa...some big and some smaller...even a KOA. Have you checked many of them? Have you checked with Maricopa County Parks?

But most of them are completely full for the time frame the OP needs. Trust me, I've just spent the last week trying to find a site for 9 days in the Mesa area.
  • Try Quartzite about 2 hrs west of Phoenix and is on BLM land so free. NO electric so people have solar and generator for electric. Beautiful out there but you do have to close up to dump at dump station and you do have to get water at the water station so not bad. There is a campground in Blackrock AZ Called Blackrock Campground, see if they have openings, just east of Quartzite.
  • Suggest you check out Mesa Spirit RV Resort.

I believe you can book for a maximum of a month on the website. We just drove thru today looking for a winter home this year. It's not a bad park.
  • Just for fun, went to Mesa KOA, plug in your dates and found pull-though 50 amp sites and back in 30 amp sites available. Could only do 27 days on line, but can call for longer time.
  • Last year I had trouble finding an opening in MESA for the first week of March - mega park ($$$) Mesa Regal maybe had 30 openings out of 2000 (?) sites.
Sadly, here in the RGV all parks have LOTS of vacancies and are down again from last year. Fortunately, this Winter the weather has been GREAT here in the RGV versus the last two cold/wet Winters, and from what I've seen on the national weather, the RGV has been more comfortable than AZ so far this season...

Just in case you are not kidding -

Rio Grand Valley - southern Texas right at the Mexican border.
