- VeebyesExplorer IIThe fact is, most of us spend very little time off the grid. A built in genny is an awful lot of money for something that is so heavy, takes up valuable basement space & really should be used regularly if it is to be worthwhile & reliable.
Most of us get along just fine with a lightweight, reliable, fuel sipping, portable inverter genny along with as many amps that can be put in the battery compartment, coupled with a nice quiet inverter which will get you through the occasional Walmart stop without the need of the genny at all. - IBcarguyExplorerI have a portable generator but rarely have a need for it. 99% of places we go have power so it's not needed. For the few times I have needed it, I wouldn't want to give up the storage space I would sacrifice for a built in.

How many of you have found you don't need a Geni & please explain why its not needed?
We started camping/boon docking in the early '60s.....reason was relaxing/fishing /peace and quiet. Gen sets were scarce to non existant.
Our favorite boon dock places became a nite mare with gen sets running 24/7/loud music from exterior speakers/etc became the norm.
So we don't boon dock anymore as we still like a nice quiet camping experience. Everyone "camps"/"rv's" for a different reason.
I do have a 5500/8500 Generac gen set for running using around the place running my welder/compressor/powered equipment while working some where on my 40 acres....and for the house when lines go down during ice or severe weather events. But with no close neighbors no one can to hear the noise. - ol_Bombero-JCExplorer

I really think I prefer the Geni for boon docking & such?

Because at this I'm thinking its a factory option must?
There are NO "factory option must/s"..:S
Do yourself a favor!
Easy way for *YOU* to decide, and save some $$..:W
Order your 5th with Generator *PREP* - but *NO* Generator.
*If* YOU decide it's a 'must have' - add one later.
You will be able to get a better price *if* you want a Gen - or - decide the bed of the pickup is a better location.

While you might not need it if you do decide to sell your TH it will make it a lot easier to sell.
We had no real desire for a generator in the toy hauler when we bought it because we intended to stay in full hook up campgrounds. However the dealer offered to take a couple hundred dollars off if we wanted it removed. We decided to keep the generator rather than be screwed by the dealer.
You really think so?
Being so many people buy them with no Geni I wonder if there is any truth to that statement?
Yet when I got my Truck Camper a few friends got excited when I told the about the Geni.
They acted as if they wished they had a Geni.
I think that's mainly for a 5th wheel as most toy haulers come from the factories with the built in Onans.
