As long as you're not operating commercially, no CDL is required. That's why HDT and MDT owners hauling RV's for personal use have 'Not For Hire' placards on their trucks.
If you put a business name, company logo, phone number, or contractor's license number on the truck, then you also must put a DOT number on the truck, if over 10,000 lbs. If you have a DOT number and you're over 26,000 lbs, you need a CDL.
