How to get slide out manually.

Hey all. We got a free hitchhiker 2 by Nu-wa. She'll is good but plumbing and electrical are toast. Model year 1998.

We are trying to renovate it
But the slide is in and we can't do the flooring until we get it out.
How do we get the slide to operate manually for this model.

  • On my Atwood drives the motor is on the end of the jackshaft (threaded rod) and you can get a 5/8 socket in the back end of the motor housing and turn the whole assembly. Unfortunately the slide only moves about a quarter inch for each full turn of the shaft. A power drill or an air motor to turn the socket might be a good idea. I would NOT use an impact wrench.

  • If it's based on a worm gear, their is likely a place to insert a handle and hand crank it out (likely on the opposite side of the trailer).

If it's hydraulic, you could look at the hydraulic pump to see if there is any option manually crank or you could see about running jumper cables to power the 12v directly at the pump to get it out.
  • There is an active NuWa HitchHiker forum at:

Join the form and start asking questions. Also, Kansas RV Center in Chanute, KS is where the HitchHikers were built and thay are stiull doing repairs on these rigs.

  • Don't know for this model but ours has an electric motor that drives a shaft with gears that drive slotted rails. We could move the shaft with two people with pipe wrenches. But our motor was disconnected so it did not prohibit moving the shaft.
