Hydraulic Landing Gear Swap?

I recently purchased a 2006 Keystone Raptor 3612DS. I love the trailer, but the electric landing gear is junk, way too slow. Has anyone tried to swap out the electric motors for an electric over hydraulic setup?
  • y-guys method is correct and best way to use electric jacks. I'd stick with electric. I have an 09 Montana with hydraulic jacks. The problem with them is there is no backup if you have a leak or your line gets chafed or cut. And it will happen in the worst spot if murphy's law is in effect that day. I had a piece of metal in the road smack my left jack, and broke off the fitting to the jack. That leaves you at the mercy of road service unless you happen to carry 2 large bottle jacks and some medium duty jackstands, and several scrap 4x4s to block wheels and have spacers to set bottle jacks on. 'cause that's the only way you are unhooking your truck till it gets fixed. Too many issues with hydraulics.
  • I had an 2005 Raptor 3612 myself, the jacks were not that slow at all. You pull the pin to drop the foot to the ground, reinstall the pin with the foot as close to the ground as you can, and raise it up. Mine moved pretty quick.

What is your battery setup like? Do you have 1 battery or more? Is it a dual 6volt setup? If you have a single Group 24 battery that might be the problem. You might try, assuming your truck is setup to charge as you run the engine, is leaving the tail hooked up so you're getting some extra power.

I can't recall seeing anyone do it, but several added another electric leg. Not saying it can't be done but I can't point you to a post in this group. Based on your U-Haul mod though I'd say you have the skills to make it happen.
Ha. Thanks. The Uhaul has been a trip. I love that thing.

Here's where the real work lies. This is what goes into the Raptor.

Maybe there's just something wrong with my electric jacks. I can't imagine anyone putting up with the slowness of these jacks. It literally takes about 10 minutes to raise the front about a foot. You can barely see it move. I installed a new, large deep cycle battery right when I bought it thinking that the smaller standard battery could have been part of the problem. It's a little better, but not much.

    Are everyone's jacks very slow?
