Lighting the Pilot Light in an Oven

Why, by all that is holy, do ovens light in the back? It makes it a two person ordeal.

If the pilot was in the front, or even half-way it would make a lighting the oven a lot easier.

What's so hard, the leaning in, or the actual lighting? Do you guys have to press a knob?

I turn my gas on to about 200* and light 'er up.

The pilot light has to be lit. It's clear in the very back of the bottom of the oven. If reaching clear in the back, it's all you can do. your face is actually inside the oven, and the weight of your body is over the open door, hoping and praying you don't break the door off.

Then you have to reach up and turn the oven knob and hold it IN for a few seconds for the pilot to light. Once the pilot is on, it's ok, it's just that first time lighting it, or if you turn the oven completely off you have to relight the pilot. These ovens are not electronic or spark ignite. It's the old, strike a match and hope you don't get blow up method!

If holding the match, you just cannot reach up and turn the knob and hold it "in".

  • Yup. Two different TTs with ovens and both ovens takes 2 people to light. At lest the trailer I have right now lights a lot easier than my last one. It's still impossible to hold the fire and press the knob at the same time .... for one person ... Impossible!
  • I cringe whenever she wants me to light the oven. She can't do it and I don't find it easy. Why do RV mfgs have to make some of these things so aggravating?
  • I hear your pain......
At least you get to do your part standing up :D
