I don't buy all your pros and cons. Short bed trucks can be as long or longer than my long bed.
Not with all else being equal. This is about long vs. short. Not extended cab vs standard cab etc. I have a SB EC. It is about the same length as a LB SC. But certainly not a LB EC. The latter will not fit in my driveway let alone my garage. Simply put there are advantages and disadvantages to both short or long. Depends on ones needs and wants. One isn't better than the other. - 24fb_freedomExplorerlike someone said here before " If your going to buy a TRUCK buy the whole truck".
- retispcsiExplorerI have had both and towed a fiver with both. My 2012 dually LB rides a whole nicer then my 2003 SB both 4x4 crew cabs. Backing with fiver is so much nicer, never worry about hitting cab. I have a 60gal aux tank and with the gate down I can still carry 8' lumber etc. Sometimes parking is tricky but then I am one of those guys that park in the back of the lot and take up two spaces. In the end it comes down to your needs just like the fiver you pull. Good luck

I have a 36 gallon tank on my 2012 GMC 3500HD CC standard bed truck. - sidneyExplorerShort beds look cooler.

My 2003 had a 26gallon tank, but the current 2011 has a 36gallon standard. - Atom_AntExplorerAnother con for short bed, at least on my old 2006 Ford, was a 26 gallon fuel tank - uhhg

I don't buy all your pros and cons. Short bed trucks can be as long or longer than my long bed. Thus parking is the same with some short bed trucks. Trucks with crew cabs, mega cabs with short beds are as long as my truck. There should be no difference in mpg. If the truck has a regular single cab then your pros and cons may be valid. JMHO,
Long bed Pros:
Tows a bit better
Higher allowable pin weight
No need for slider hitch
Bed can haul cargo while towing
Long bed Cons:
More expensive
Longer bed makes parking more difficult
If Duelly then won't fit most car washes
Slightly worse mpg
Short bed pros:
Lower cost
Easier parking when not towing
Slightly better mpg
Short bed cons:
May need more expensive slider hitch
Little room for cargo in bed
I chose a short bed with slider hitch. I use the truck when not towing and its much easier to drive, park etc. - NC_HaulerExplorerI would guess that long bed refers to an 8' bed, as opposed to anything less than 8'...
- CWSWineExplorerWhen you refer to short bed is that included the 6.5 foot bed of extended cab? I have extended cab with 6.5 foot bed and don't have any problems getting in my garage, parking not turning 90 degrees with my 5th wheel attached.
