Any suggestions? I need a convienant way to transport 4 bikes. 2 adult bikes and 2 20" kids bikes. I have a two position bumper mount bike rack where I put the bigger bikes. The kids bikes go in the bed behind the hitch. I'm looking for a better system. The kids bikes are getting chewed up laying in the bed and dragging them in and out. I have having a difficult time. I do not have a hitch on my camper bumper, and I do not like how unstable that system is anyhow. My current rack uses big u-bolts around the back bumper. Very secure.

I have a 4 bike rack you can have for $30. It was on my Jayco TT, but I removed it when I bought my fifth wheel without a bumper. It's powder coated in good shape with all the hardware including those big U bolts. I bought it from Camping World about 10 years ago for over $100.Please send me a pm if your interested.Mike

I had a similar problem, bikes were getting beaten up bouncing around at the back of the trailer. My solution was to have a 2 inch receiver welded to the front of the truck, it barely sticks out at the bottom of the skirt below the bumper.When I have the bikes on the rack out the front (four bike rack) I don't see them, on my bike I just put the seat all the way down. The height of the bikes is basically in line with the front of the hood, since the hood slopes up and I'm above that I don't even notice them. No more problem with bikes getting beaten up.

Did you search this Forum for `bike rack' then search the results for `4 bikes' or `four bikes' or just `four'?

We had a receiver installed on the front of the truck. Our rack is for 2 bikes. Having the bikes up front has worked great and are not in the way when driving.Our currecn rack is a Swagman that supports the bikes by the wheels. It works very well. On previous truck had used a rack that held the bikes by the frame. That was not so good since the bikes swung around a lot in the wind.

Bugs are not an issue if you cover the bikes. The cover shown in my photo above is actually a large ATV cover. Cover all 4 bikes quite well.
I notice you are in Syracuse, not sure if you venture into Canada much.
Arvika is a Canadian company. You may be able to buy the Arvika bike rack from a retailer in CA vs. buying on line and having it shipped.
I would hope there would be a significant saving buying in Canada.

Looking for options. I do not want to put on the front of the truck, but may consider the front of the camper. My concern, as others have mentioned, BUGS!

I've tried them on the back on a 2 inch bolt on receiver and on a ladder rack, on the front in a 2 inch receiver and now I'm back to the rear. The front is handy as you can see them but they get covered in bugs and just are not ride-able after a long trip without a lot of cleaning. As mentioned the rear RV bumpers cause lots of movement and I finally got over this by having a custom made 2 inch HD hitch with a jamb nut, this stops all movement and they ride extremely well.

BTDT ... used to have bikes on the back. Too much bouncing. Now we use a rack on the front of the truck, installed a hitch like some have said. Not my favorite solution - everything hangs out so far in front.

Our bikes are fairly nice (we do lots of riding) and the kids bikes will probably not be far behind. My next step is to put a set of Yakima or Thule bars on the top of the truck and be done with it. About $300 + racks but they will be more secure and not in front or behind. My 0.02 :)

EDIT - haven't tried the pin box rack yet. I have a shortbed truck and not sure about clearance but it's worth a measure...

I, along with several others here made our own. You could go to a welding shop and have one made cheaper than you can buy one sometimes. Do some searching in this forum and the "Do it Yourself" forum here. Good luck...

Go to raxter site . I use there model two bolts converts two to four bike rack. Have expensive bikes and tray style racks keep them separate and very easy.. For tons of info go to mtbr forum, section dedicated just for racks.
