Lube a 5th wheel hitch ?

I spent 15 minutes once helping a fifth wheel owner disconnect his fifth wheel from his fiver hitch; that was after he had been trying to disconnect his truck for a half hour! Finally I had him pull the rail pins and raise the front of the fiver with his electric jacks with the hitch still connected to the pin. Then pull the truck forward to let the hitch down on the truck bed and free it up that way. He had never lubed it and it had finally jammed up. After a few shots of oil and some pulling and pushing we managed to disconnect them and free everything up. So.. yes.. it pays to lube the moving parts now and then!!

I have greased the pin and jaws in the past, but never anything else.

Be sure to lube the pin on the trailer and the jaws on the plate. Lube of your choice.

I have a Pullrite slider and I have to spray WD 40 on the slide rails and in a couple other spots but that is it because it has a capture plate attached to the King pin

Thanks for the info. I spray dry graphite on my slides so I'll do the hitch as well. No manual, don't know whether or not I got one when we bought the rig new. Can probably find the info on the net.

My owner's manual had instructions on lubing the B&W Companion. Maybe yours does, too?
