Mice, Bugs and Other Unwanted Guests

Inside the basement compartment, there are a few holes approx 4" (Guess) diameter. these holes are where we feed the Dock Power Cords and the water hoses. So far I have been lucky - I think. So. how do I prevent mice, bugs and other unwanted guests from coming in? what can I fill the holes/spaces with? Bronze wool? What other choices are there?
  • I have a battery compartment that is vented and open to the basement for free travel for the critters.
  • I have had mice go through steel wool.
One sure fire way would be to somehow attach a small sack or sock of 2 or 3 mothballs so that they hang down just outside the hole. That way you may get a whiff of mothballs every so often when you are outside, but, you should not smell it inside. I sometimes put mb on the feet of the front jacks also. I have had mice climb the jack legs and come inside. Mice, snakes and bugs don't care for the smell at all.

But crows pick up the moth balls and play/fight over them
  • OK, so moth balls seems like the way to go.
Question: how did u get them to open their little legs?

    You must be pulling mine!;)
  • If you get a Citronella candle an open it up an leave it in your basement compartment, you won't have bugs at all. You don't even have to light the candle, just put it in there open.

Now, I'm not sure if the candle will attract mice or repel them? But it does work well for keeping bugs out.
  • I leave sticky traps in the basement along the walls. That's where the little critters like to run. DW thinks that's cruel. I call it prevenitive maintenance.

O you sillies..... Just hang the entire Moth! Geeeze..
  • First of all the opening you found around your power cord, is one of MANY holes they can get in from. water inlets, electrical ins and outs etc., from the manuf cutting holes wider than needed and not filling them up.

Go out at night and turn the lights on inside your RV and then crawl underneath. You will be surprised at the light show and just how many 'light holes' you will find under your RV!!!

Then get yourself a can of "Pestblock Great Stuff" which expands and fill all the openings.

  • When the bug company comes and does our house they do the RV also.

Our 2010 has a marine power inlet so no passages there and the bottom is covered in corrugated plastic so for the most part the obvious places are pretty well covered but if they want in it's just amazing what they can crawl through.
