My experience is different, sorta. The OEM Continentals lasted 18k and I had 2 tread separations a thousand miles apart. They were replaced by Michelin MS2's (all 4). At 63k I replaced the Michelins with another set (heavier rated). They had 45k/5yrs on them and the tread depth was 6-7/32nds. New is 15/32. They had at least another 10-20k left. These are 18" tires which may be different than the 17"s.
The picture below is a $4000 tread separation failure of an OEM General AmeriTrac TR with less than 25K miles. The TPMS indicated no temperature or pressure abnormalities prior to failure. I had been planning on changing them out to Michelin LTX M/S2s, but obviously I waited too long since the Generals still appeared to be in good shape - note the tread remaining on the tire that didn't fail. I've run Michelins on all my trucks and never had a problem. The truck now has the Michelin LTX M/S2s installed.
