Multiple Blow-outs

The big boys sorry guess I should have said Tire Co. for you. Still think most tire problems come from low tire pressure & ride-on will help. Folks say they check tire pressure but not every time they get in there rig. I have had to go the tire shop twice for nails I found because of low tire pressure when I started to take off in morning. Had a blow out once because I did not check after we stopped for lunch & did not check. Being a old truck driver I like to check my tires every time I get in my rig.

Yes some times you do just get bad tires. Look at the post on here how many times do you hear people say they had problems with LT tires & how many ST tires. Do not know if I have heard any one say they had problems with LT tires.

I am not a ride-on dealer but do use it & if you will use it you will have less blow outs. Also along with being a sealant it will also balance you tire.

If you want less tire problems get Lt tires. Check every time you get in your rig or get ride-on. You can still get a flat with ride-on but I have not to date.

We had this happen to us last year. Tire blew and 30 miles down the road after changing, the second tire blew (not the spare). I was close to a town and was able to unhook and go get a new tire (only had 1 spare). When I got back, MN Trooper was pulled over for traffic control. He said that he has seen this happen more than once. The first blown tire puts a tremendous load on the other and soon after that one blows. I now carry 2 spares.

As far as I know, the G614 does take a 6.5" wheel...but IF I were going to go that route, I'd look at 17.5" wheels and tires, or see if the Sailun G rated tire would work on your rims. I'm going to look hard at the Sailun G rated tire when I get ready to purchase tires again....they are priced well below the GY G614's and, in my opinion, probably just as good....

Your weight comparison is very bias. When compared to like sized LT tires the XPS Rib is also heavier than all of them. It’s steel casing design is much deferent from them. It’s a retreadable tire with taller treads and more dense compounds. It has an extra steel belt to help prevent punctures. It has added sidewall rubber strips to protect curbing damage. It’s a very heavy, durable tire designed for inner city delivery and pick-up. None of the extra weight adds to it’s certified strength.

Next time you do a comparison ask the dealer if they have a durometer hardness tester. It measures the density of the rubber compound. It's very common in NASCAR for all race teams to have one.

Ride-On is used by the military, Postal Service, police and fire departments nationwide. I also use ride-on in my bike tires http://www.ride-on.com/
We have gotten nail & screws in our rig several times & if you don't check often you will lose a tire & say nasty things about your tires. So what I am trying to say is Ride-on could save you a little money, & it will also balance your tires & will not harm your wheels

Not a fan of ST tires, would replace with LT tires. Also if you want a little more HD tire to replace your 235 R16 E rated you my want to look at the Hankook F19 a 750R16 14ply or G rated had them on our last rig & great tires. Then sometimes you just get crappy tires like the GY 614 that we replaced with the F19 hankook tires.

Don't know who the "Big Boy's" are, but I would also add speed/heat, as well as not only under inflation, but over inflation or overloading one's rv...."Most" reports we get on here, seems people have stated their tires WERE aired to recommended air pressure...Never heard of "ride on", but I'll just stick to checking my tire pressure and tires on a regular basis.

I post my reply because I experienced this problem on my trailer when it was only 2 years old. I had just purchased my 5th wheel from the original owners who had kept it down in Florida for two seasons before bringing it back to Michigan to sell. The tires still had a lot of tread on them, but the weather had taken it's toll upon the valve stems. Always check those valve stems!

The stems should be metal anyway,when I had some LT's installed in Alberta I was ready to argue for metal instead of rubber - guy interrupted me and said "by law we have to install metal stems at these pressures"

I would prefer that all American sold products be made in this country but that is not the world we live in, if you can’t control it or you haven’t done anything to change it then don’t complain about it and keep your misleading opinions to yourself.

Before foreign companies started making the tires all the complaints about trailer tires were the same as they are now. American and foreign made tires all perform the same. If you don’t think foreign made tires meet DOT standards then do something about it like report it to the DOT or your congressman and quit whining and misleading people about the tires. Some people complain about foreign made tires having inferior rubber, they don’t have facts to back up their claim. If you want a tire that will solve your tire problems then think about getting larger stronger tires. Light truck tires appear to last longer than ST tires based on comments I have seen on the forum, not facts.

Things to avoid that can damage tires:

1. Extended storage. Side walls tend to break down.
2. Improper inflation. Keep the tires inflated to the proper level when in storage or in use, 24/7/365. Under/over inflation when in use causes the heat to build up higher than what the tire is rated for which damages the tire.
3. High speed. Limit your speed to the max the tire is rated for, most are 65mph. Traveling over the max causes heat buildup above what the tires are rated for which damages the tire.
4. Hitting potholes in our wonderful highways and roads, running off the edge of the road, hitting curbs, rubbing tires against the curb. All of these things damage the tires. Belts break down and tires throw the tread.
5. Extended driving on hot highways in hot weather can damage tires from overheating.
6. Overloaded trailers, this will cause your tires to overheat, get rid of the extra weight.
7. Environment – keep tires covered to protect against the weather and sunlight.
8. Age, check with the tire manufacturer to educate yourself about when tires should be replaced.
9. Dry rot, check with the tire manufacturer to educate yourself about dry rot.
10. Mechanical problems like brakes sticking, or bad wheel bearings can cause the wheel to overheat which will cause the tire to overheat which damages the tire.
11. Defects in materials and workmanship. Highly doubtful this causes all tire failures.

Tire Pressure
Check your tire pressure when the RV has not been driven for 3 - 4 hours. That is when the tire is "cold". Forget ambient temp, 80psi at 10 degrees F is the same as 80psi at 100 degrees F. If you over inflate or under inflate the tires this can cause the tires to run hotter than normal which can damage the tires and cause tire failure. Stick with the PSI on the side of the tires. No need to turn this into rocket science. Check with the tire manufacturers if you need an education on tire inflation. Tire pressure does rise as the tire temp rises after driving down the road just like it is supposed to which is why you are supposed to check the pressure when the tire is “cold”.

Tire Temp

An Infra Red Thermometer can be a useful tool if you know how to use it. It will tell you the temp of the tire. You need to know the max temp for the tire if you are going to monitor it. If the temp of the tire is higher than the max temp the tire is rated for then you may have a problem (trailer is overloaded, improper inflation, or a mechanical problem). If you are checking to see if the tire is over the max rated temp and you don’t know what the max rated temp is, then you are wasting money for the thermometer and wasting time using it. Don’t mislead people into thinking they need an Infra Red Thermometer causing them to waste money and time.

Replacing Failed Tires
The tire dealer will prorate your failed tire and sell you a new one. Do not let the tire dealer keep the failed tire when you have it replaced. Contact the tire manufacturer about the failure. The manufacturer will arrange for a local tire dealer to ship the failed tire to them and reimburse you for the price you paid for the new tire plus pay for any damages to the RV caused by the tire failure if you provide estimates of repair. This has been my experience with Goodyear and Carlisle.

This can be a very helpful forum if you forget the personal opinions and prejudices, get the facts, and communicate the facts to help others learn. Post useful information like what caused a tire failure not dumb comments like”I had a China bomb blowout”.

Wow, all this wisdom and you don't even mention "set your RV up level" for towing.
