Narrowed our two fifth wheel choices down, opinions?

The wife and I looked at two fifth wheels that we both really like. Both are at the same local dealership that so far we like and both are within our price range. One is the 2014 sabre 34 TBOK and the other is the 2014 Eagle 34.5 BHTS. The wife likes the sabre more but the sales guys think the jaycos are better built in their opinion. Looking for opinions from you experts.
  • Both are great units,we sure Love our Sabre,as most that have one will tell you the same, and for 100.00,FR will give you a second year of warranty,(Go with what the DW wants!)
  • Sabre pros more counter space,2' longer, no 2nd bath, a little more counter space (they are both lacking counter space), Larger grey tank, although fresh tank is too small, much nicer shower/bathroom

Jayco pros 2 year warranty,1/2 bath if you like them, larger fresh tank, long standing reputation.

Personally I like the Sabre, but I'm concerned about the warranty and not quite sold on the build quality yet

I have a 1/2 bath in my bunkhouse, while I like the floorplan, I do not like having 2 black tanks. If I could do it again I would not have the 2nd bath.
2nd bath is nice when we occasionally bring others however when it's just us for a weekend or short trip. 2 black tanks are a hassle and not worth the trouble.
2nd bath is nice 2nd black tank is not, maybe these comments will help others avoid my oversight.
  • Well mama wants the sabre. The only thing holding me to the jayco is its reputation otherwise I love the sabre also. We really don't need the half bath either in the jayco vs the pantry. Most of the camping we do is extended weekends at state campgrounds so most of the time we take the walk or bike ride to the closest campground bathroom. Right now we will be pulling it with an 02 F250 7.3 diesel crew cab but we will be upgrading in a couple years to a bigger 350 dually. I know we are on the upper end of our towing capacity with these two models but the next year or two we don't plan on going more then 3 hours away with what we have. Once we upgrade not only in truck size but also age we will be doing some extended stay trips further out of state. I have a gooseneck trailer that I pull a farm tractor to shows and tractor pulls that easily weighs in at 13k GVW and the truck handles it fine. But I am also in flatter land in Wisconsin then many of you out west. I wouldn't think of going in the mountains with this combination.
  • Our first fiver was a Sabre. Impressed with its construction. It has 6 sided welded frame. It also has a big shower, which makes a HUGE difference.
Stand in the shower in the Jayco, then stand in the Sabre's shower.
I vote for the Sabre, but as already mentioned, what ever mama wants...

There is no choice! Get the one the wife likes.
Absolutely no choice. Even if you have to change TV.
  • Both good trailers.

Both are close to 13K GVWR
    Sabre (13,110#)
    Eagle (12,995#)

What truck are you going to be towing with?
Does it have 2600# of 'available' pin weight?

Match the rig to the truck....no matter how much you LIKE a particular RV if it's no fun towing then you don't go then you don't have fun.
  • I had a Jayco Eagle and traded it in on a Cougar. The Jayco was better constructed but it was entirely too heavy at the kingpin for our single rear wheel truck when loaded. It depends a lot on the floor plan where your weight ends up. Don't believe the salesman.
  • I am no expert, but I do know Jayco has a very good reputation.
