Need advice on Aux Fuel Tank

I am going to have to add an Aux tank for my F350 6.7 Thinking about in bed 50 Gal or so...I have looked at all the websites and combos...I have went from the TOP o Line Tool box combo with in cab indicator with internal transfer pump for about $1800 to a tank only gravity feed through splice into existing fuel hose $550 sold through Camping World with a $75 install fee.

I tend to "over buy" these things ,,, so my question is:

What is your experience with either type ? The high end guy told me that gravity drain tanks were only allowed by DOT on "commercial" rigs..yet CW ad states DOT compliant.
  • They are wonderful since you don't have to worry about getting into and out of fuel stations with the trailer attached, just fuel up at the end of the day after you've dropped the trailer. We have a manual fill pump and spigot that fill the truck tank with. It helps break up the day and by the time the tank is getting low we are more than ready for a break. Probably have around $450 in our 40 gallon tank.

    Just love it!!
  • I have an RDS from northern tool. 50 gal with tool box Gravity feed. Had trouble with the computer check enoine light came on. The computer dosen't like the fact that you are putting on miles but the tank is remaining full. Did not affect anything other than the light coming on. Solution" I drive with the valve open, filling the tank. Eventually stop for potty break, turn off fuel. Run off until the next break and turn it back on. Computer happy. I'm happy that I can get gas without having to manuever around cars, islands, etc. No water in line. why should the gravity feed be any differant than the transfer flow. a tank is a tank. only differance MONEY
  • I have a gravity feed one from northern tool. 50 gallon with tool box. I have used for 4 years without any problems. Love it. Also no water the last time I changed my fuel filter, not a drop after 20k and over a year on my truck. I believe the water thing is a myth. JMHO
  • I have a compo 50 gal fuel and tool box by Transfer Flow with the auto transfer of fuel and monitor system. I have had it for 4 years. great system. it is flush to the top of the bed. would buy it again.

  • Tow Vehicles might be a better forum for this. Here's a thread about one brand in TV.
  • I have a gravety feed 45 gal and it works great for what I need. Im glad I did not spend more would have been for no reason.
  • Those things aren't my cup of tea. I also have the 6.7 in a 350 dually. I pull a 38ft. MS and we look forward to stopping for gas just for the break. And I have read on here that those things increase you chances of getting water in the fuel. Not for me.
