I do not believe he state if it was a manual slide or auto slide. Sometimes no matter how many times we ask for more information we just do not get it.

So I will try again.


1. Truck Make/Model?

2. Hitch Make/Model? Manual or auto side?

3. Trailer Make/Model? Pin box Make and Model?

With this information we should be able to find someone to help you, which would include info regarding the truck and trailer.

Example we usually do not recommend used 6.0 and 6.4 Powerstroke Diesel models, some year GMs, and RAMs.

I don't quite understand the problem. Your hitch should be locked in whichever position when you are hooking up and unhooking. If it is not locked in position then yes it would be a problem. After you are hooked up you can unlock and slide the hitch or slide it manually without the trailer hooked up.

A malfunctioning hitch should NOT be the bases one uses to decide yes/no on a truck/trailer purchase.

There are makes of auto slider hitches that require the tv and trailer to be within a few degrees of straight to each other to hook up, unhook.
Imo and experience, auto sliders are just a gimmick. Get out and slide it back when you have to do the very rare sharp turn .

Have not heard of those type of complaints on RV.net.

Without knowing the brand of hitch, it is not a commonly reported problem. My first thought would be that he just doesn't know how to do it properly. But even if it is a problem with the hitch, if the price is right you can always get a new hitch for not a lot of money.

Do others have the same problem?

How long has your friend had it? Is it possible he never learned the easy way to unhook?
