Organizing Basement

Some good ideas. I just cleaned ours out and got rid of things I thought we would need or use. Havent needed or used them for a couple of years so things got tossed like the oil change pan I bought to soak and clean the grill grates in, I bought fish pole holders to put on the back wall so lines didn't get all tangeled in the aluminum lawn chairs. Got rid of the bag chairs and used that compartment for the garden hose. Coiled the rigid 50amp cord into a bucket and keep all the adapters, dog bones ,30 to 15 amp accessories ect. in that same bucket. Always carried a complete tool box but not able to do a lot of the work because of health and would never use that many tools and it would have to be a major repair so I made the tools available smaller, hence a smaller tool box. Just have to evaluate every once in a while and get rid of what you just don't use or could get by with out if an occasion arose that you might need it. Tools I now carry, a 7 in one screw driver, a puck wrench that I bought at menards, 4.00 and an adjustable wrench, small vise grips. A small supply of electrical, fuses elec.tape wire strippers and son connectors. Teflon tape for plumbing needs. Never have used those tools much less the sockets and other items I carried.I probably removed 40 lbs from the basement and made room for nothing .We were carrying a sattlelite dish and the tripod but we are doing with out it for now and are going to get the tailgater dish. Wife had things to put backut like I told her, "We don't have to fill every inch of open area!" Especially when its me that has to put things away when we get ready to head home from the local campground and she goes to work from there.

I learned early on that if I can't see it then I really don't need it.
Open any compartment door and items are right there in plain sight.

Folks pack why to much stuff

I have a sliding aluminum tray that will slide out of the door on either side of the fiver to nearly half it's length, and will hold roughly 200 pounds at full extension (added this option as the trailer was being built). On the curb side are the folding chairs/tables, BBQ, wiener forks etc.,and on the other is a hose reel with 100 feet of water hose on it, space for my shop made tire chocks,some of my tools/supplies in a plastic tool box,extra electrical cords etc.
On the floor in front of the tray and reached through the curb side door on the front of the basement area are my sewer hose connecters in empty cat litter containers with tight fitting lids ,portable air compressor, bag of wrenches/pliers/screwdrivers, axes, camp fire tools, larger folding lounge type chair,rubber boots, spare oil/anti-freeze/washer fluid, broom etc.
Under the sliding tray are my patio mat,case with my socket wrench set,spare tire crank handle, and whatever else is not used much but needs to be out of the way.
I welded up a basket that holds 3 empty 5 gallon water carriers, and that is screwed to the frame under the bed area and well up above the storage compartment floor. This works well as that space was just dead storage, and not readily accessible as it is in behind the propane tank compartment.The containers are easily slid in the front of the basket and held in place with a rubber strap across the opening, although they would likely stay put without it.

I made a hanging box for my two plastic camp tables. Really help to organize the basement. It was always a pain to need a table and have to dig it out from under chairs or whatever.

I have a rack/tray system that came with my fiver wich I think is pretty neat,it would be simple to reproduce,the frame is aluminum tube and angleand the trays are simple plastic trays that they attached strips of plastic under the side lips to run on the angle(I would use Teflon like they use in cutting boards) These really help organize my storage bay and to remove them I simply pull them out and the racks come out by removing screws,the whole job takes ten minutes.

We have wide, shallow stackable plastic totes found at WM in the front section. Organized to purpose and use. Tools and spare parts in one, outside cooking items in another, etc. When we first got our FW we struggled as well, all this space but we didn't want to just start throwing stuff in there.

We are currently struggling with our 6' folding table that slides into the pass-through and then we stack chairs, etc on top of it. Many times we want the table out without the other stuff but the table is the last thing to come out. Just don't know what to do :(

I screwed a length of small link chain in two rows on the top of my front compartment. I then use light rope through the links to tie longer items up there. This gets my extension pole (for washing rig), collapsible rake, shovel, weiner sticks, etc. up out of the way because they were always on the bottom of the pile. And I agree with the posters who said carry less stuff I just have a hard time taking it out.
