I am a software engineer. The OPs question is obviously hardware, but the software says he can cut it off! :D

I would use tvman's method.

you could cut that changes off then flip it on the inside and tac it in there... if you are worries about it

No, it won't hurt. I cut mine with a Sawsall.

I don't see any problem there a 4 1/2" grinder with a cut off wheel would make short work of it then a grinding wheel to smooth it out and then some black paint and no one will ever know it was modded. :)

I had to do the same thing (2009 Montana) - saws all with a metal blade. You could use a jig saw with a metal blade but it will take allot longer to make the cut.

I did not cut the "bolt area". Cutting did not impact the strength of the pin box. My 2012 trailer came with the back of the pin box angled.

Damaged truck bed because I did not take measurements when I purchased a new truck (from a 2005 to a 2011). Filled with RTV, painted with touch up paint and cover bed rails with Bushwacker bed rail caps.

If I had clipped mine,I would not have dented the truck side rails.
Cant see as it would do any harm to the hitchpin
I got rid of the extended pinbox,being as I didn't need it.

Zip disc on a 4-5" grinder then mark the radius with something like a large bottle cap and welders chalk. Change disc to a 80 grit flapper disc and finish the radius the buff sharp edges. 10 minute job.
