Go out to the end of the awning that has the motor on it. Have the other half push the button while you listen for the motor to run. On mine the motor was running but the end cap had stripped out. If that is the case you should be able to jam a piece of wood in there to make it roll up.
I fixed a neighbors with the problem you told about. Poor desigh or cheap metal on in the end cap. I drove a brass rod I flatten to fill the space at the flat area of the cap and motor shaft. Yes it was going to be windy so time was important. A pin though the motor shaft and the end cap would solve this issue.
chevman - kohanaExplorerThanks for the input.
- VTLeeExplorerI have a Cougar that has a remote for the awning and sometimes I have to use that instead of the switch to retract the awning. Can't figure it out.

When Dometic says it will need to be serviced, that translates to a new motor. When you roll the awning up this way it twists the wires to the motor and usually jerks them out of the motor housing. Ask me how I know, LOL700g wrote:

Dometic had a recall on some of their awnings a couple years ago. Motor issues.
Reading the manual on mine mentions removing a screw and rolling it up. However, doing so damages something internal and the manual states it must then be serviced.
Thats the method Dometic specifies. Haven't heard of any other way if the awning won't go up other than the usual check power, wires, breaker etc. - mileshuffExplorer

Off to "Handy Andy's" hardware store for 20' of heavy gauge contractor grade two-wire cable, some heat shrink tubing, solder and shrink wrap all the connections properly also I covered all the places where the cable bends with the arms with heat shrink tubing for some extra insurance and that awning has worked like "jack da' bear' ever since!!
Red Green: Nothing bugs a handyman more than a stripper that works too slow. - Go out to the end of the awning that has the motor on it. - camp-n-familyExplorerChech the wires at the end of the awning where they plug into the motor. Mine pulled loose at the connection once.
- LearjetExplorertap on the end with a broom stick while someone depress the switch...might get lucky and get the motor to work one more time
