This is my first fifth wheel. I never had tire problems on the 2 MHs I had. I like the way the 5er handles, but like everything...there are good things and bad. I didn't mean to start a war, but I believe something should be done about the crappy tires (and retreads- another subject)) that we allow the tire manufacturer's to produce. I hate to see the Gov't get involved..It might require that? Too bad the RV Industry can't ride herd on the tire manufacturers and require them to produce a decent tire? Hopefully, if we, the consumer, make enough noise, someone will listen?
The problem is that the gov't. =does= have standards for any vehicle that carries passengers, like your MH, but there are virtually NO standards for trailer tires. You literally control the industry with your dollars. Just do a search here for the dozens of tire threads and you'll see what I mean. ST manufacturers have even gone to the point of literally over-stamping tires with =higher= load ratings, right across the old stamp on the tire, so they can "legally" be used on heavier trailers. And people wonder why this junk blows out... There is virtually no safety margin on STs, then they pull that? Gimme a break. Again, if you've got 16" rims, put a good set of LTs on and breathe easier.
