That is why it is always a good idea to carry a spare, both sides, just in case the damage, problem is more than a simple repair/cleaning can fix.
I have had a spider get in and short the plug. That one blew 2 fuses in the truck.
I just replaced one that had thin plating on one of the plugs. It started to corrode and the build up of oxidation shorted the plug.
