Propane components

My 2012 Komfort has developed a propane leak and I am a bit confused. The trailer has the normal regulator that allows me to switch from the left tank to the right tank. That regulator is mounted inside of the left tank compartment. My confusion is that on the right tank hose is another regulator. It is a small round diagram that is attached inline in the hose that leads from right tank to the main switchable regulator. Why would I need 2 regulators? It is that smaller round non switchable regulator that has developed a leak. I would love to know why I even need it.
Below is what the regulator looks like....

  • Intermediate pressure reduction, It reduces pressure to about 30 psi
    $10.00 on ebay.
Otherwise you may need to purchase a longer one piece HIGH PRESSURE HOSE

So is this smaller regulator only on the right tank because of the longer hose run to reach the "primary" regulator?
  • Good question.....

Only thing I could think of is that it allows the manufacturer to use cheaper, lower pressure lines from that tank across the Rv.
Check to see if it is plumbed in with a low pressure hose or hgher
    rated lines?????

Here is the specs on your unit.

I will take a look tomorrow in the daylight. If this is the case I would rather just invest in a higher quality line and get rid of a part that will eventually fail again.
  • This was discussed not long ago and someone posted the requirement for that regulator as specified by the National Fire Protection Association Standard for Recreational Vehicles. I will see if I can find that thread.

Yes code requires for anything over 5' to have a regulator to drop the pressure.

If you have a choice I recommend Cavagna brand regulators and pigtails.

    Cavagna on amazon

    Correct.........

PLUS----Propane cylinder pressure can be as high as 200 psi
Do not want high pressure run across front of 5vr for safety reasons but also for practical reasons-----High pressure propane can condense into liquid when not used. Liquid would then go to Main Regulator and destroy it.

So when propane cylinders are placed on opposite sides of RV a 30# regulator is used to feed across to main reg.

Cavagna is a very good Brand of LP Regulators
  • Just replaced my "RED" regulator this spring. Went to the local RV store asked for the red regulator it came complete with pigtale. The old reg. lasted 7 years thats not bad.
