Yes code requires for anything over 5' to have a regulator to drop the pressure.
If you have a choice I recommend Cavagna brand regulators and pigtails.

PLUS----Propane cylinder pressure can be as high as 200 psi
Do not want high pressure run across front of 5vr for safety reasons but also for practical reasons-----High pressure propane can condense into liquid when not used. Liquid would then go to Main Regulator and destroy it.
So when propane cylinders are placed on opposite sides of RV a 30# regulator is used to feed across to main reg.
