Pulled 7way plug out of truck.

In a hurry, got distracted and pulled away from my trailer with the cord attached. The cord was stretched at the electrical box in the king pin assembly. I removed the box cover plate to see if there were any broken wires and did not see any. All lights work but now I have no trailer brakes. This is a used truck but is new to me. I just bought it and noticed that it had a new controller installed. I don't know if it was installed correctly or not. I am going to try to isolate/determine if the problem is at the truck or the trailer. I'm not much of a mechanic but will try to use a test light. The previous owner was a veterinarian so he probably had the controller properly put in so I'm thinking I have probably damaged the wires some where inside the box.

What do you folks think?

Have you opened up the male end of the plug? It could be that a wire was pulled out.
  • I would be inclined to start at the vehicle plug and test for 12V current on the brake wire output. It seems to me that the wiring in the TV plug can be "fragile" and subject to become damaged from a sudden jarring. Next up would be to check the continuity of the brake wire in the RV harness by using a tester, one probe in the kink pin box and the other on the appropriate pin of the harness. Good Luck

    Cheers!

Stuff happens. Do you think the brakes were working before pulling away connected? I would think if the lights and turn signals are all working then you just pulling away would not make an impact to the brakes only.

Which brake controller are you using? My Prodigy would let me know where I am at.

Yes the brakes worked perfectly prior to getting this different truck. It has a voyager xp controller. By the way, the small light on controller never lights up. No current? dunno.
