Pulling A Fiver With A Extended Cab

I know I’m a creature of habit but I like the truck I have but decided it was time for a new one. We pull our fiver 5-7 months a year and what we enjoy is finding a place to stay for a week or two and explore the area. We use the truck for shopping and exploring and the longer the truck the harder to explore. I also like the long box so I just don’t have to worry about sharp turns. Our extended cab long box has worked and I just wanted a new one. I’m not bad mouthing crew cabs, but today they rule. A long box crew is really a long truck. I feel that with a short box we will need a slider, plus less storage space. We now carry my wife’s handicap scooter behind the hitch. Chevy in 2014 no longer will make an extended cab and Ford only has them in their lower models, not sure about Ram.

Extended Cabs-A Thing Of The Past

The bottom line is I’m just need to change my thinking, wait a minute maybe I’ll just fix up the one I have.

  • No, the Chevy website shows what is now called a Double Cab with standard box. They are apparantly calling it a double cab now instead of extended cab.
Right now, the HD trucks are still going to be the current design and Chevy is only offering the Crew Cab in short and standard box.
We tow our Cameo with a 2011 35000 Srw Crew Cab standard box (6.5 foot) bed with a Pullrite Superglide hitch. I wanted an extended cab but it was not offered in a 3500 series SRW with a standard bed and I did not want the long bed. I'd wait till later in the model year or visit a Chevy dealer for better details. I can't imagine no offering of the extended cab in the future. Phillip
  • It's funny but iv'e never thought of that! I guess we are so used to seeing four-doors that when I see a two door it stands out! In the end I really can't see having anything different than what I have now,it really serves the purpose it was intended for,i agree that length and width can be a royal p.i.t.a at the local grocery store but I guess that's a needed butt kickin' I gotta' take to haul my 16.000lbs+ fiver up and down the road safely I guess.
  • Once you get a bigger cab youll never go back. They are so versitile. For extra people, ice chest when traveling, dog in the back, coats, muddy shoes, you name it it can go back there and not be on the seat with you.
