Question about length

For the love of God! The weight police are out of control. The OP asks about length and it immediately turns into a weight discussion. How pathetic.

2 axle on all of them. Most of the ones we are serious about are in the 16-17,000 gvwr range.

Ford says the GCVWR on my rig is 30,000, and maximum 5th wheel towing is 22,200. I THOUGHT that would be enough truck. I wanted the dually for extra confidence in towing that much weight. With the fivers we are looking at, we should be under the maximums, which is what I want.

In the 16,000 to 17,000# range, you're probably looking at a pin weight of 3200-3400# or so.

The reason I had stated that some state parks might not be able to accomodate you was because you stated that one of the 5er's you were looking at was 43' long...

I don't think you'll have a problem with that weight and again, once you've towed a longer 5er it'll get easier to handle

We have been towing a 38 ft 5th wheel for 9 years and have stayed at least once in every state. The difference between 37 and 40 feet is not that much. You will have limits on where you can stay but about any campground that can accommodate a 37 ft can also handle a 40 ft. They will tow about the same. With your truck (same as mine) you can handle what you are looking at.

Yes, the 3 feet can make a difference in getting spots in some parks. Just be aware when you look online or make reservations. You have plenty of truck for the trailer.

Well you DEFINITELY have the truck for it, but I'm not sure of the GVWR and GCWR of the truck, though most use the trucks RAWR around here.. I believe the pin weights are a bit light though. If you actually had a 20,000# 5er, I would think the hitch weight could be closer to 4,000#...The pin weights you show look like "empty" or "dry" weights. Again, I believe a more realistic pin weight would be in the upper 3,000# range at the least...My 5er, last time weighed was 15,800# with a pin weight of 3300#....and GVWR on my 5er is 16,950#.

Still don't see an issue, Even if you go with a 43', it'll just take some getting use to when pulling into spots and backing up, but you'll get use to it.

You'll be limited at some campgrounds with a 43', more State Parks than anything else.

anyway....figure on a heavier pinweight than what you showed

Crew cab, long bed

For trailers of that weight you should have a F450/4500 class truck minimum
