Roof Cleaning

My fifth wheel is a 2015 so it's still very clean and now it's always under an enclosed RV carport when not being used. I want to get the rubber roof back to looking like new..... What's the best cleaner / conditioner to use? Thanks, Jeff

  • I use the same stuff that the rest of the trailer gets, the Meguires in the pink bottle twice a year. That is followed by one of the roof specific conditioners.

Does it make a difference? I don't know. I don't have a black streak problem & I feel better about taking care of the roof.

Have you considered just leaving the roof alone. I promise I will not climb up there and look at it. :W

Seriously, I have never entertained the thought of cleaning the roof.

I was kind of thinking that I don't care how the roof looks any more than the belly looks like. JMHO

I'm with you on that and I should have really specified what I wanted to do. I usually take a soft brush and soap and water a couple times a year and just get what will come of, no hard core drubbing. My roof wraps over the side about maybe 3" and that's the part I want to look nice and white again.
  • I use 1/2 cup of Spic & Span and 1/2 cup of Murphy's oil soap with warm water. Cleans great and doesn't mess up the sides.

  • RV Flex Armor for me after my rubber roof failed at 5.5 years old. And zero caulking to worry about. Yes, I would put RV Flex Armor on a brand new trailer. I will NEVER EVER own another rubber roof longer than it takes to install RV Flex Armor. I consider this install a must have option that is just part of the purchase price just like replacing the china bomb tires.
  • How much you want to spend? Few grand and go w/ RV Armor. Lil elbow grease, liquid Sic-n-Span. Lotta elbow grease and time and whole lotta pads, Magic Erasers.
  • If you can't find out what's recommended by the manufacturer I'd go with Murphy's Oil Soap. Do not use any products containing bleach.

If it is an EPDM membrane it is probably made by Dicor and they have products to clean and treat it. They do work but it is a job. I'm done with that job, too much work for a senior citizen!
