- GsportExplorerIf you're still shopping for the trailer, have AC replaced with a heat pump. Mine was only a couple of hundred dollars and will pay for itself in no time. We only use the propane for cooking
- pianotunaNomad IIIHi Layton,
That is why my final choice for heaters was oil filled. They about as safe as it gets because of their much lower surface temperatures. - layton86ExplorerYou are good. No offense taken. Never hurts to be safe. I'm just trying to get the fireplace to work so my bride of 30 years will be comfortable. Using the small ceramics are good in the living areas, never in the bedroom as it is tight. We keep it about 65 or so. We like everything to work just in case.

Thanks for the informative response. I'm really looking for someone that has had experience with electrical heaters not safety lectures. I find it difficult to place a heater in a fifth wheel trailer 3 feet from anything, but I never operate heaters without being present.
Congratulations on doing your good deed for the day, dont stop now!
Thank You.
Sorry - didn't mean to Hijack your thread. I use both the electric fireplace and heater, I keep them both on the lower settings most of the time, and the electric heater is always at least 3 feet from combustibles because I usually keep it on the floor by the island or on a countertop where they are safe. I enjoy them both and they each have their place. Again - did not mean to offend. - layton86ExplorerThanks for the informative response. Thank You. - TakingThe5thExplorerThe news just aired a story about the dangers of electric heaters. The primary problem appeared to be "things" that were allowed to contact the heater, They recommended keeping your heater at least 3 feet away from curtains, bedsheets, and any other flammable object, Seems like a good common sense reminder. And I've just done my good deed for the day!!!
- layton86ExplorerI have an electric fireplace called a Little Prince. I bought my 5er used and it came already installed. When I turn the power on it smokes and powers off. I had a tech look at it and he said it needs to be taken out and cleaned. Probably some dust bunnies in the works. We've been using the furnace in the A.M. to take the chill off and the small ceramic heaters and they do a great job. I'm going to get the fireplace out and cleaned then reinstall to see how it works. I will update the blog after that but I think that will be the way to go as LP is about $3.00 a gallon. You can also get a heat strip on some AC units and run the fan as an alternative.
- MTPockets1ExplorerWe've used several different elec space heaters over the years, the absolute best we've ever had is the Dyson AM05 heat/cool. It's a fan or a heater when you need it. Adjustable volume, oscillating or still, accurate thermostat. Pricey at $399, but got ours on sale at Best Buy for $299.
- Dave_M_CExplorerI agree with other replies I've read. Using an electric heater or fireplace is the best way to go. We have used both electric and our propane heater, and the propane heater burns propane very quickly. If you are doing any cold weather camping for extended periods, you will be filling your bottles every couple of weeks. Using electric, you will have free heat if you are staying an RV park for less than a month. Most parks charge for electric for stays greater than a month, but it is still cheaper and more convenient than using propane.
- BipeflierExplorerWe prefer a "portable" electric heater (oil type) as opposed to the fireplace as we can put the heat where we want it in the trailer.
I also run a dedicated 12 ga. extension cord from the pedistal, through the slide opening, just to power the heater so as to not overload the power panel in the fiver.
