I did call them and read what they said in their RV tire brochure. They said you should ALWAYS run the max pressure an RV tire was capable of taking unless you are trying to remedy a rough riding situation. This, according to them, would give you the best towing experience with no side effects. Glad you brought it up.

It appears that heartland is now dumping the TOWMAX E rated tires and going with G rated tires on all their new Bighorn and Big Country models. Some say which are the Saliuns. Is there something we do not know. To keep it simple just figured it would be easier to match the tires with the capacity of the 7000 lb axles so the tires were not the weak point. 4 ST E rated tires have a combined capacity of aprox. 13,200 lbs. which is less than the axle capacity and the 14k GVW of the trailer. Understand that part of the trailer weight is picked up by the hitch. I would rather have some over capacity then under capacity or even being close. To start weighting each individual wheel is a non-starter. Do not know of anyone that does that. Cannot be that much of a difference of the individual weight on a set of wheels and axles that are that close together if one is paying attention to how they are distributing the cargo when loading the trailer.

Will start out with 100 PSI and watch the tires closely to see how they are wearing. Getting ready to depart Missouri on 3 1/2 month (10,000 mile) tour of the entire NW. Will be our way from here thru the Dakotas and then moving west.

Bottom line the Saliuns have to be much safer than the TOWMAX.

I have always ran my tires at indicated max pressure but using a weight/pressure chart does make some sense. One thing to consider is the higher the tire pressure, the bigger the boom when a tire does go. My last camper came with "D" (65 PSI) rated tires. I would get a blowout around once a year which was getting tiresome (pun intended) doing roadside changes...which I got really good at by the way. At one point I upgraded all the tires to "E" rated and ran them at 80 PSI. Still got blowouts, the only difference was when these babies blew they started to do some damage to the trailer as they would totally separate the tread. I lost both fender skirts with those "E" rated tires and towards the end of having that camper I dreaded pulling it anywhere. Once I reached each destination without a blowout (which happened more than not) I would celebrate a little and relax!! I would hate to be around a tire blowout explode at 110 PSI...that is crazy. Maybe I have been doing it right for the last 15 years running max pressure, maybe not but I will be doing some more investigating.

Tire pressures for a trailer vs tire pressures for a truck is apples vs oranges as they operate in a completely different environment.

In this case at 110 lbs he is 35 pounds over what the chart calls for!!!!!!!! He choose tires that are WAY over rated for his load! Each tire has at least a 1000 pound margin! A LT235/85R16E would have been a much better match for the OP's trailer.

An all steel ply tire like the S637 fully inflated is not going to ride very well with 2500-2750 load on it.

If I had to weigh each wheel before I aired up. I'd never have time to go camping!

If you want to beat you trailer up, have less braking, and a bigger chance on impact damage to the new tires then go ahead and run them at 110 inflation.

You are not clear on if the 12,600 is the weight on the axles or the total weight of the trailer(GVWR is listed as 14,000). Know the weight on the axles, preferably by each wheel position, and set the air to 5 lbs more than the inflation chart says based on the heaviest wheel.

70=2765, 75=2905, 80=3042, 85=3170, 90=3300, 95=3415, 100=3550, 105=3675, 110=3750

At 110 the four tires can carry 15,000 pounds. You do not need that!

I totally agree! The load charts are there for a reason. I went from E's to G's and ran 85 for several thousand miles and the tires had perfectly even tread wear.

Be very careful with your recommendations. Goodyear publishes a chart for THEIR TIRES. Ask them if it applies to other brands? I can guess the answer. If the mfg of the brand of tires you are using publishes a tire pressure vs weight chart use it. Otherwise I wouldn't be "borrowing" somebody else's. If nothing else contact the mfg of your brand of tires and ask about inflation pressures. They made them and should know.

The other problem is you have to weigh each tire to properly inflate it. Just dividing the trailer weight on the axles by 4 doesn't take into consideration the different loadings on the individual tires.

I could have quoted Saliun's chart pressures but they would be the same as GY's. It's not brand specific it's load and size specific.

If you have read any of my other posts I say it's best to weigh each tire then use that tires weight to determine air pressure for all 4 tires.

All tires except ST tires follow industry standard inflation tables. So the inflation table for a GY LT235/85R16G is the same as the one for Sailun's LT235/85R16G.

Except Goodyear specifically says do not use the load inflation chart on RV tires (including the G614) unless there is a ride quality issue.

That assumes you use the tire as it would normally be used. The OP installed tires that are greatly over rated for his trailer. The Sailun dealer said that at under 3000 lbs that full inflation is not needed. I provided an industry standard inflation table and now you are arguing about it and quoting GY not Sailun. Chris
