satelite

I have a standard direct tv setup with the dish, if I switch to an direct HD one will it be more difficult to locate the satelite's than the standard dish?
  • You will have one more setting to do on the dish, that you don't have now. Skew. But most posters here report no real problems.
  • On my last trip to Florida the camper next to me had an HD dish on tripod. I am guessing he did not have any problems.

I know that since I got a good compass, I have been able to align the dish (SD) in just a couple of minutes even without leveling the dish.
  • The short answer is yes, it is somewhat more difficult. The long answer is, it does not have to be harder. With the right tools locating the correct dish settings and then fine tuning to the correct satellites can be pretty easy. First off I use dishpointer on my smart phone to find the correct parking place for the antenna. Then I set the angles required on my align a site to rough aim the dish. Next I connect my birdog to help me lock in peak signal.

    X2.
  • The SlimLine HD dish is bigger and heavier, so make sure you anchor it down good.
We cheated and went with the roof top Trave'ler Slimline HD dish.
  • I installed Directv for 2 years. One setting which is the tilt that is all. Not a pointing issue it is just an adjustment on the dish itself. It is the same to point. Bring in the 101 and you have all the rest provided you have the line of site to the HD sats.
  • No problem for me .You got to be sure that the tripod is level.
