- Old-BiscuitExplorer IIITriple benefit for dealers
First, as a competitive advantage in the sales process. Second, by making money from customers required to ensure their RVs are maintained according to factory recommendations in order to keep the warranty active.
“Customers will have to do basic maintenance once per year, but NAE does a great job in contacting consumers a few months in advance to notify them of the required service,” he explained. “That gives us a chance to serve the customer and to make money while helping to keep their RVs in good condition.”
The third benefit to his dealership occurs when his salespeople can sell customers additional coverage that isn’t covered by the lifetime warranty, he said.
“We can still upsell customers on other coverage, like paint and fabric protection, extended service contracts which cover components like slide-out motors, hydraulic jacks, and much more and emergency road service, that isn’t included in the lifetime warranty,” said Bender. “Offering a lifetime warranty shouldn’t deter customers from buying a service contract to cover the other items, especially on larger RVs.”
Oh yeah.....sign me up :S - Golden_HVACExplorerFunny,
Like when the frame cracks, I guess the life of this one is over.
Remember the cabbage patch kids? Someone sent one back to the factory that fell apart due to the kids playing with it constantly, and probably more than one trip through the washing machine. The factory sent back a death certificate.
So are they saying they will warranty the entire RV for the life of the owner, well except those things like motors, tires, refrigerator, and other parts that the RV manufacture bought from other suppliers? Like the battery, slide out motor, roof membrane, and the list could go on. . .
The Mossy warranty act says things like the manufacture can not require service at a "Authorized dealer". Back in the 60's, Ford, GM and other car manufactures got in hot water over requiring things like oil changes and such things to be done at the dealership to be covered by the 1 year 12,000 mile warranty that new cars came with back then.
Now the warranty might state you need to keep records of when the oil was changed, so if a oil breakdown might happen, the manufacture can not blame it on lack of maintenance, but must prove it was due to something out of the manufactures control, such as adding 20-40W oil to a car that would normally take 0-5W oil because the owner thought the thicker oil is required for long term maintenance of the car. Truth is nowdays, cars require much thinner oil than in the 50's and 60's. Using 50 weight oil will destroy them. But the manufacture can not deny a claim based on lack of oil changes when the muffler rusts apart, or the paint falls off.
That does not stop some "Extended warranty" companies from putting in fine print, such as you are required to have a oil change every 3,000 miles or the whole warranty is invalid. Yes including the refrigerator broke, and you did not do proper maintenance on the engine, can not show proof of monthly oil changes, you are out of luck. It is just a way that some unscrupulous extended warranty companies have written policies they never intended to pay out on.
Good luck in 10 years trying to collect on that warranty.
If it comes from a great company like Horizon RV's, and the warranty is something like our frame is warrantied to not crack in the first owners lifetime, I would believe it. THey do build a wonderful RV suitable for full time use. Most RV's out there are somewhat worn out if you live in them for more than 8 years.

Don - TvovExplorer IISeems like that "lifetime warranty" only covers things that are relatively easy and inexpensive to fix.

Similar thing happened in AZ in the 1980's. A guy opened up several large scale fitness centers offering life time memberships. After several years he closed them all down. Then reopened another chain under a new name and again sold lifetime memberships. He repeated this cycle 3 times until the city made it illegal to sell lifetime memberships for any business. - rattleNsmokeExplorerAs a kid, I purchased from a tire shop a lifetime warranty on a front end alignment for my 1971 Plymouth Roadrunner. I paid IIRC an extra $30 for that 'service'. A month later the tire place burned to the ground the owner being charged with arson. I still have a picture I had taken of a burned out building. The only structure left standing was their street-side sign saying "We won't leave you flat". How ironic.
