setting out landing gear while still hooked up to truck

If I do a one night stop, it is usually at Walmart, J, Home Depot or something like that. I hardly ever put any jacks down in the parking lot and I stay hooked up. Only open a slide to the curb. Leave discreetly and you would never know we were there. Now if I stop at a campground or RV park where I have paid to stay, then I take advantage of what I had paid. But also prepare properly and to MY comfort zone on leaving but yet be considerate of others in the park.

I never unhitch for a 1 night stay, nor do I put down any jacks. The slides go out until we are ready for bed,then the back two come in, leaving the bedroom slide to come in before we leave. We leave early in the morning for our next leg of the trip, so there is as little noise as possible for the neighbours.

JMO but I would just do the rear jacks only. The front of the 5er should be solid if still left attached to the truck. Mine is anyway. I only do the rears when staying for one night only. Not that it's a big time saver, it's just less to deal with for me.

For years and years, when we went camping and were going to spend the night at a campground and leave early the next morning...I stayed hooked up...just disconnected the cable from the truck.....If I had spent a week somewhere and was going to leave early the next morning...I would run all my slides in and hook up to the truck and be ready to go next morning without disturbing anyone.....I NEVER had an issue with anything....left the 5er hitched, rarely dropped the front jacks once hooked up....nothing ever failed, never an issue with truck or 5th wheels.

When you look at all the dealers lots across the country,..it's RARE that unit is level...all slides will be out, 5er sitting uphill, downhill, matters not, nothing seems to happen to them...and again, it never did anything to my tow vehicle by leaving truck hitched to the 5er...probably easier on the suspension than bouncing around towing for 8 to 10 hrs.

If I were the OP who was pulling into the campground to spend the night, only to leave early next morning...leave truck hitched up, unplug cable to TV if you're going to hook to shore power, lower front landing gear if it makes you feel better, and spend the night and leave the next morning..(don't forget to raise your front landing gear:)).

So true it is a 5er, unhitching and hitching are way to easy too bother with leaving it hooked up!

I do it all the time for one night stays. While I do not have a six point leveling system, I do have auto level capability. Yes it does take some weight off the TV, but it does not "hang" the truck, in the AM it is "auto retract all" push of a button and we are off to our next destination. I guess it depends on the system weather to unhook or not!

be care to not allow the truck to 'hang' of the pin of the 5er

with pickups it probably isn't going to be an issue; but if you have any air suspensions don't get yourself into a situation where the suspension lets down but the front legs are holding the trailer up; effectively adding downward force to the pin
