Shock absorbers...

I have a 29' 2012 Montana Mountaineer. One ton Dodge Ram tow vehicle. I have never had such a problem with things being thrown out of interior storage. We had a 30' Dutchman and nothing like the problems I have now. My speed limit is 65, mostly 60. Had the turntable thrown out of the microwave and break. Jar in fridge fell to the glass crisper cover and broke the cover. So, I am looking in to shocks or an after market pin box to hopefully solve the problem. Any experience and/or advice? Thank you all very much.

  • I had one that rode that bad. Center kitchen and it would launch gallon jugs of water out of the sink and onto the floor. I was under the 5er one day and I saw marks on the frame where the U bolts were hitting the frame. I talked to Dexter a couple of time and went to heavier springs (2600 to 3000) and what a transformation! No more bottoming out. Then I put on ezflex (equaflex for yours, I think) and that also was a big improvement. Then I replaced the old shocks and that helped a lot more. By the time I was done, that 5er went from the worst riding trailers I ever pulled to one of the best. It looked like it was floating on marshmallows. Craig
  • I have the equa-flex system on the springs along with shocks. They are on a 35' cardinal, for the most part things stay put.
  • I installed the Center Point air bags last year. Things don't move around as much. Also have the Trail Air king pin. Makes for a good tow.

I installed the Lippert shock kit on our 05 Copper Canyon made a great difference in smooth towing, both axles!
Even before that only issues was a road buckle that was like a speed bump that i hit at 45 mph, and wiped out the door shelves in the refer.
  • Kitchen is amid ship. Towing is level. No sway on fifth wheel. I feel tires
are inflated correctly, but will double check. Looking to get the Joy Ride system that was featured in Trailer Life recently. Thank you for your response.
  • Only time I had items come loose is when I had to do an emergency stop and all of the dishware came out. Also left a knife block on the counter on another trip an found knives sticking in the floor. Other than that I've had no other issues. We drive 62 on the interstates and take our turns and bumps as gentle as possible. Good luck
  • Is this a rear kitchen model?
Check air pressure in the trailer tires.
Check air pressure on the trucks tires.
    Towing level?
Check suspension for worn components that might be causing the problem.
Does the trailer sway? If no, move on. If yes, have alignment checked, and have them check to be sure the axles are square to the pin.
Shocks may or may not help. Air pin box will only help the clunking between truck and trailer.
