I started with a GMC 2500 D/A and yes it pulled my 40' 5th just fine but I was not in a comfort zone knowing I was overweight. I traded for a 2014 GMC 3500 DRW D/A and I am very happy with this combo. We were coming back from Colorado on hw550 in June and I noticed when the rig in front of me passed a small hill a wind gust blasted him from the side and he went all squirrelly. When I passed the hill wham the wind hit and we didn't budge. I told the wife, this truck just paid for itself.
