- Bionic_ManExplorerWe switched from a short bed quad cab to a long bed drw crew two years ago. The new truck tows SOOOOO much better, but there is a downside. Some of the spots in National Forest campgrounds are no longer accesible.
- NMaceExplorerAs someone else pointed out, it is no longer just short vs long. There are 8', 6.5, and 5.5, and some in between. And the 5.5 will not work for much of anything serious, for sure not a 5vr.

Chevy and GMC trucks come in long, standard or short beds. I would have liked the long bed but I wanted to be able to park in the garage, so I went with the standard bed. I have had no reason to have needed the long bed for towing the FW so far.
One nice side benefit of the standard bed is I can hitch with my tailgate down and not have it hit the trailer. My buddy has my same truck with a long bed and he has to shut the tailgate once the pinbox gets inside the truck bed or else it will hit the trailer when he hitches up.
Might be his pin box length. I have a long bed with the Lippert 1716 pin box and have no problem opening and closing my tailgate with the 5'er hitched up. If his pin box is on the short side then that could be his problem. - AZ_T_TExplorerChevy and GMC trucks come in long, standard or short beds. No problems for the last three shorties and I owned the last one for 13 years.
I now have the short box F 250 crew cab with no slider and all is well.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, maybe I could start an urban legend that you need a short box to pull a fiver. :B - korbeExplorerMy bed is about 6.75' and I prefer the shorter wheel base.
- musicman54Exploreri got a short bed when i was towing a tt but now i have a 5er sometimes i wished i had a long bed but i love my truck so i deal with it
- BB_TXNomadPurely personal preference. Everyone has their own reasons for one or the other.
I prefer long for the extra storage and I often carry long boards and want to lay them flat with the tailgate up and the cover closed.
But the crew cab and long bed can be hard to park in tight parking lots with narrow spaces and narrow drives. Even with my SRW. - goducks10ExplorerI've had short beds for years. Bought a long bed last year and would never go short again. With our current 5'er there's plenty of room for stuff in front of the hitch. This is our 1st 5'er so I can't compare towing or hauling stuff while towing with a short bed. Only negative would be when running empty the 169" WB does get a little long once in a while. But for the few times it's tight turning in a parking lot the rest of the time it's just like any other truck.
- DogboneExplorerI have a 6.5 box crew cab F250, really like it, no slider and have no problems turning/back window.
