Silver Strand SB(San Diego) Power and water hookups

I am soon going on my yearly trip and wondered if anyone has been since they installed water/power. Are the spots the same width/length? How tall are the pedestals for the hookups? The sites are kinda narrow once I put the slides out and park the truck, so I was wondering how the pedestals are placed, if they would make parking/setting up even worse. Thanks ahead of time if anyone has info.!

  • Silver Strand is the only state campground I have every experienced any of the power trip/aggressive ranger/host behavior, and it has happened several times.

Ok I had a great experience at San Eljo state park we got and inside camp area for one night and another one for the beach side the ranger said we could stay until the other site was available instead of moving out of our site for two hours then coming back. Not only that when I brought up the paper work for the next day there was a long line he saw me a called me up first.

Good for you, see sometimes its fun!!!

Altho i would never go back to Campland on the Bay if they paid me.

  • I have had similar experiences with the park ranger staff at Silver Strand. They are on a power trip. The hosts are also extremely aggressive about the rules. At least with hookups now, they won't harass me at 9:30 AM for running my generator for 5 minutes in order to make coffee when there were less than 15 people in the whole "campground".
  • I'd write a letter to State Parks about this person. NO EXCUSE! I believe they are referred to as "public servants" and get paid way too much for very little work and then get the stupid benefits/retirement that WE all pay for.
  • Worst. Staff. Ever.

To be clear, I'm only referring to the paid staff. Hosts were reasonable, but the uniformed staffer is on a serious power trip.

We arrived about 12:15, and were bruskly informed that check in was at 1300, even though our spot was vacant. Knowing the site was a back-in, we disconnected our tow vehicle, and were just as rudely informed that if we didn't tow it past the gatehouse, we'd be charged for the extra vehicle.

Dumb, but hey, it's her job.

At 1250, a line of RVs were lined upon the entrance road. One dared to pull up to the gatehouse at 1252, and was promptly sent back out to the end of the growing line.... As was the guy who followed him.

That put us first in line, so we waited until exactly 1259 to start moving... My wife walked up to the counter, and waited until exactly 1300 to check-in, even though we'd prepaid and there was nothing to do but hand us our parking tags.

I then had to block the road by our site to disconnect the tow dolly...

We've stayed in a bunch of state parks and beaches, but this is the only one I've found that is this rigid in their interpretation of the rules, and that's the individual working there. We had a similarly bad experience several years ago, and it was the same uniformed staffer, so I know thousands of other folks have experienced this, and write it off because of the proximity to the water...
  • Right on folks. Thank you for the information. It sounds like it is ready to go and we should have a great time. Now I just need the weather to cooperate, and we'll have a great time!
  • We were at Silver Strand on May 17-19, water and electric not ready.
Went back 3-7 July, water and electric all working.$65 front row. $50 rows 2, 3, and 4.
One dump site at the bathrooms and one fresh water spigot for fresh water fill-up, we used our portable tote to dump grey water and this worked well. The spaces are about 18" wider and everyone was able to get their MH or 5th w/ truck in to the spaces easily.
A great weekend but would have liked more sun. Cool eonough that we really didn't need AC. 30 amp and 50 amp and water at pedistals.
  • I go to this campground 1-2 times a year. Glad to see they finally put in electric hookups. You are right the sites are extremely tight already. It looks like the hookups have made the sites more popular too, looking at reserve america. I hope someone has been there and can answer your questions. BTW, no reviews for the campground on rvparkreviews.com since the electric was put in.
