Slide Floor Replacement

navybanker, the woven plastic on the bottom of your slide is not glued it's wrapped and stapled . When I replaced mine I used epoxy waterproof truck bed paint on the marine plywood. The funny thing about the manufacture used wrap is that its purpose is to keep water out but it actually keeps any that gets in from getting out which contributes to the failure of the slide flooring.

Dandy Dan - what exactly are you talking about when you say "brackets holding the slides in"? One of the big concerns with my doing this job is aligning and properly attaching the hydraulic mechanism back to the new floor. The other question is what allows the slide to "slide" back and forth on the floor/opening of the camper itself? I first thought "rollers" or is it some special material like plastic? Also, what exactly is the black material covering on the bottom and apparently the edges of the plywood floor? I assume this black material is glued to the floor and you must "tear" it off and replace with new material-what ever it is. I have watched the youtube videos on removing the slide floor several times but there is a lot that is not clear to me.

As far as the 4" or 6" inch strip at the bottom of the slide on the outside, I have sprayed water on this repeatedly and no moisture is coming in that I can detect. This has always been suspect but haven't seen moisture. The places where moisture came when sprayed where found on the top of the slide and bottom corners behind the bottom overhang(4" strip)and the right and left side of the slide. Not sure I am properly describing this area. The moisture has been in the very back corners inside in the carpet. The moisture maybe getting to the bottom side of the floor and not the top where the carpet is. It's like every 2 - 3 months it leaks. I patch and then it happens again and patch again. This is a major concern once the new floor is in. Will it leak again down the road and can I tell if it is quickly enough. Sorry for the long answer.

^^^^^^^^^That sounds like my leak exactly. The caulking shrunk just enough to let water in and you couldn't tell simply by looking at it. Over a three year period enough water got in to destroy the flooring.

Mine got wet because rain was getting in behind the lower trim strip (about 6" wide) on the outside wall of the slide. Rain runs down the wall; gets through the slightest gap in the caulking of the trim strip; and then "wicks" throughout the slide framing.

We chased possible leaks at the roof line and seams for 4 months before we happened (using dye) to find the entry point.

I sealed all of the trim and corner seams on all three slides with an elastomeric polymer paint designed for use on the roofs of mobile homes and available at Home Depot. Not a drop of water in the year since we put it on.

I was fortunate enough to be able to take mine back to the factory, They pulled all the slides and put new floors in them. The flooring has a hard composite feeling material on the bottom to reduce any wear. FYI they told me to keep a real good eye on the trim pieces and the angle pieces that hold things together and water can seep in and destroy the flooring. Also make sure that the brackets that hold the slides in are sealed real well. I also had new slide seals installed. Good Luck.

I also replace the full bedroom slide bottom and about eight inches of wall stud. Used marine grade plywood and did not remove slide.

Once your get started it's not near as hard a project as it sounds.

I replaced both the bedroom slide floor and the main living room slide floor with marine grade plywood this past summer cost less than $500 for materials.
If your not confident in your abilities best to go with the professionals.

We put a new floor in mine at home. Not hard, just cramped working location.

Removal from the trailer should not be necessary unless something else is wrong.

Yeah, I would have thought that too, until I actually got mine apart. Then it was no big deal to replace the piece of flooring that was rotten. I don't see any need to remove the slide, but maybe that's the way they're used to doing it. That just looks like it adds a lot more work.
