slide out help on holiday rambler

Hey guys new to the forum. I just purchased a 2007 holiday rambler next level 5th wheel/toy hauler. im having 2 issues with the slide outs one of which is my fault. the ladder to the loft was out a bit while the living room slide was coming in and now that one side (rear) will not engage and pull in or out, the bar turns under the slide but the large gear like wheel does not.

also all of the sudden the master bed slide is sticking when going out. when its out and your bringing it in it seems to drop once its fully inside then you cant bring back out without pushing it first.

any help would be great.

  • J, give Patty Everling at Venture Mfg. a call, I bet she will have the gear/part you need and save you a lot of money to boot!
Very nice folks to deal with, she probably has the full schematic you will need as well.

  • Thanks for the replies. I'm a general co tractor and usually do my own repairs. But time is my enemy. I took it in yesterday and they are saying it's not the pin but the actual gear. At this point they can't find the part and I'll be into the repair over $300 plus part cost which no one knows. If I could find the part at this point I would just do it. The master slide they want $500. Saying the slide wore grooves and they have to fabricate sheet metal and fill in the groove. Sounds like bs to me. I may be picking it up soon.
  • This actually should be a very easy fix. If you are not mechanically inclined you may want to just take the coach to a service center or at some point you have to do something for your self. You need to actually crawl into the compartment where the gear is and watch it while someone actuates the slide. At the point where things go from turning to not turning there will be either a bolt or sheer pin that is broken. Just remove the broken part and replace it. If you are not comfortable with this have a service company take care of it.
  • If you have any mechanical ability, I think its best to work on it yourself. That way when something goes wrong you won't be at the mercy of a road mechanic. Shear pins are not that difficult. The hardest part is getting the gear and the shaft to align so you can drive what's left of the old one out while putting in a new one. After you get the new one in you should get a punch and mark the gear and shaft so the next time it breaks it will be much easier to fix. And of course it goes without saying that you should always keep a couple of spare pins handy. If you have no ability then do what the old man says and take to the dealer. Be sure to take your wallet also.
  • Right the long bar turn but the gear dies not. Is it an easy fix or a dealer fix. Is there a way to post a pic from a cell phone.
  • " the bar turns under the slide but the large gear like wheel does not"

You will have either a bolt or shear pin through the gear or shaft which you broke off when you jammed it.
