Spare tire under garage

I got my toyhauler and while we 'saw' the spare tire hanging under the back garage, we didn't realize just how low this thing is :)

when hubby backed up into our yard it is a slight downgrade. boy oh boy that tire skimmed the grass. I stopped him, he got out and put his hand under the tire and figured we had a teeny bit of room left.
good thing we got the camper set into its spot.

but now I am wondering if that thing is going to be a small nightmare at times?

anyone else have their spare tire bolted under the hauler? any problems you encountered?

    We have a couple of spare tires, tucked below the garage.

    Both are actually under the frame, far from hitting the ground.

    But, we even added a Porta Bote holder below the tires. Our lowest point is about 2 inches below the rear stabilizer jacks and the Boat holder is about 5 inches below the two spare tires.

    We've rub a couple of times in high hump driveways, so we had some rear roller wheels welded to the rear frame, and now there no issues, except to go slow when there's a chance to rear-end.

    I have spare between frame in behind axles,so it is out of way,however I moved my rear jacks to behind tires to keep them from dragging.
    get a straight edge and put behind rear tires at ground and lift to bumper,everything it touches will get torn off at some time,spare,jacks,gas station,steps,and tail lights if below bumper..Plan to move them all...

    Funny you posted this thread as I am in the market for a TH 5er and have the same concern. I have seen many models with the spare hanging in the rear and we have a short but steep hill on our driveway that flattens infront of the garage. Right now we have a travel trailer and the rear levelers rub ever so slightly when the trailer gets to the bottom of the hill as I am backing it down. Let me know what you come up with as a solution. I am concerned about the hitch in general with such a sharo hill but the tire will definitly hit

    Is the trailer sitting level when on level ground?

    Lowering the front of the trailer raises the rear.

    If you are using a weight distribution hitch, remove the bars before backing into the spot. Tongue will go down and rear will go up.

    I used to have to take my rear mounted spare off to get into my driveway too.

    I have since installed a carrier Lippert spare tire carrier in front and keep one spare there all the time and use the rear for a second spare on the longer trips.

    I have knocked my rear spare off, trying to back over a small rise before!

    Mine is in the back between the frame rails also. 122 gal fresh and both holding tanks in frt of the axles. Don't need anymore wgt up there.

    Mine is in the back but is tucked up between the frame. Mine also has alot of clearance anyway.

    It is odd to have it behind the axles. I have a belly mounted spare that halfway between the front of the axles and the front of the trailer. If clearance ever becomes a problem on that spare, I will have much bigger problems to deal with!
