Starcraft ar-one 17th possible purchase?

This is my first post here and have always been a tent and a enclosed trailer camper. I am finally looking to purchase a new toy hauler and am looking at the starcraft ar-one 17th model (almost identicall to the wolf pup). Has anyone had any experience with this toy hauler? I am very new to this so I don't quite know what to look for as in a good or bad build and design. I am going to be using it for quads and dirt bikes. I know I will still be using the bed of my truck to haul toys but I am kinda limited on what I can buy as I only have a half ton pickup, F150 supercab. This looks like it can fit the bill and still give me plenty of room for payload in the bed. I don't really want anything big as I will be getting it into some tight spaces sometimes. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
  • Extended warranties are negotiable, but you need to determine the cost-benefit.
  • Thanks for the replies, It seemed like a rip off to me. We're talking a trailer with some appliances. I've converted a enclosed trailer before so I don't see how I couldn't make repairs on this.

It wouldn't be to me. Seems to me that most of the issues occur in the first year of use. And there are lots of weasel words in those warranties to get them out of repairs that you think should be covered. If you don't plan on using it more than a couple times a year, and it will sit in storage most of the time, that may be a different story. But if you use it a lot, you'll find most of the issues the first year. And a 2-year factory warranty is even better.

I would do a thorough, I do mean thorough, PDI and have them fix the problems before you pay for anything or pick it up. It's much easier to convince them to fix any issues before they have your money in their hands.

I agree, pass on the extended warranty, a rip off IMHO.

  • I brought my grizzly to the dealer and not only does it fit, but it fits with more room than I thought. So I'm almost positive that I'm going to continue with it.

My question now is the dealer offered a extended warranty (at my expense of course) if I finance through them but I can get a cheaper intrest rate through my credit union. In the end I would pay $1800 for the additional Warranty. So is it worth it?
  • I have a Starcraft Launch UltraLite. Solidly built. They tend to come with a few more added features for a little less money. Starcraft also has a 2yr warranty. Gives you a little more time to work out the inevitable kinks. I see a lot of AR-Ones around my area (NC). I don't think you'll be disappointed. Just remember, all manufacturers let some bad units get out. Try to find a dealer you can depend on after the sale and give the unit you are looking at a serious inspection before buying. Good luck in your search!

Well I should add that 9 times out of 10 it will just be me and the ol lady, and 2 dogs. We don't plan on adding any others to the family till she's done with college and that won't be for 3 more years at least. My truck is a 2014 f150 supercab 5.0 with 3.55 gears, so it's not the most desirable tow vehicle but does hold its own pretty well. My payload is 7350lbs, towing capacity is 7800lb, and gcwr 13500lb. Im not a fan of pulling to MAX capacity but have before. I was looking at the grey wolf 19rr but if I do load it up it does not leave me with much payload In the back of my truck. I will be hauling my yamaha grizzly and 2 dirt bikes as of right now. The grizzly will be a tight squeeze in the toy hauler but will fit but can easily fit the 2 bikes and the grizz in the bed or vise verse if need be. I'm a weekend warrior most of the time and rarely get the time off work to do a whole week trip. Mostly looking to upgrade for the toilet, shower, ac, and fridge. I did find it hard to find info on this unit as to why I'm asking. Thanks

WHAT?!? A payload of 7,350# in a 1/2 ton truck?

You need to take another look at your numbers.

I highly doubt you have enough payload to handle the tongue weight plus have toys in the bed.

  • Starcraft has been around for a long time, known for their PopUp and Hybrids. I see now they have completely dropped those trailers and are not your more run of the mill RV trailer (not a bad thing, but not focused on a niche market anymore). I also see they are part of the Jayco family, that is a plus. Jayco has needed to grow, and through Starcraft and Highland Ridge they have more operations.

Kudos to you for shopping within the means of your truck too. My question for you is, how long do you see this type of RV lasting based on your family size, etc? An RV of that size is good for a couple people, maybe 3 but add many more and it's going to feel cramped quick.

Before you jump make sure you've done the math on what you can tow, how much your ATVs weigh and how much weight will be on the rear axle.

You probably won't get much information on that specific unit as it appears to be pretty new.
