- LantleyNomadI have a hardwired 50 amp Progressive industries unit. It has detected faulty pedestals twice in 3 years. In my mind it has paid for itself already.

A nice comparison chart (I don't guarantee the accuracy) between the major players. I have the Progressive Ind EMS-HW50C
Note the difference in warranties. - 84bobExplorerProgressive for sure.
- Texas_FlashExplorerDid not have one for a long time. After a $3000 repair job, I got one. Don't leave home without it is my motto.
- aruba5erExplorerThey are like car insurance, hopefully you will never need it. I have the hardwired Progressive. I can't remember ever haveing a code set while using campground power but the genny sometimes can't make the microwave work so it goes off on low voltage. I'd say Worth Every Penny.
- samsontdogExplorerI have two and use them both
- BumpyroadExplorerand buy a multifunction surge protector. the $250 and up variety, not the $90 el cheapo.
bumpy - nomad297ExplorerI have the SurgeGuard 34730. I will never again plug in without it or some other similar form of protection. I have discovered numerous problems at different pedestals, the most common being low voltage. Low voltage KILLS appliances over time, if not sooner. You will see many people who say " I've been hooking up without one for thirty years", but they don't tell you how many air conditioners, microwaves and other electronics they have had to replace in that time and they have no idea how long the appliances lasted for the second owner of their RV.
For the (relatively) low cost of an EMS, it is a no-brainer -- don't leave home without it.
Bruce - kennethwoosterExplorerWe spend the summer at an older RV part in Colorado. We had a lot of wind and some trees went down one on a major electric line. Over the time of several days they had to shut us off and then it would come back on after awhile. I was glad I had the surge protector.
